About MiCamp Merchant Services

Formerly known as MiCamp Merchant Services, MiCamp Solutions is a merchant account provider based in Phoenix, Arizona. Founded in 2007, the company is an ISO of First Data (now Fiserv). MiCamp claims to serve over 15,000 standard-risk to high-risk merchants and to process over $2 billion annually. It appears MiCamp Solutions also operates under the name Data One Merchant Services. Data One Merchant Services lists its headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and has few public complaints at this time.

In 2021, MiCamp acquired American Bank Payments, and in 2022 they added Express Payment Solutions. REPAY became the clearing and settlement processor for MiCamp in 2023.

MiCamp Solutions Payment Processing

MiCamp Solutions processes credit card and debit card payments for most business types, including standard and high-risk businesses. They offer terminals, virtual payment portals, and their proprietary payment system WAVit. WAVit claims to offer one price for credit card purchases and a lower price for debit and cash, while also claiming to only charge the client a flat credit card processing fee with no added percentage. Business owners should look closely at their contract when using WAVit, however, as this kind of pricing is determined by the average amount a business processes in a month and so will vary from business to business.

In addition to conventional pricing, MiCamp also offers merchants fixed-rate pricing through its monthly program WAVit. The company also hosts its proprietary POS software on Clover and Poynt systems.

WAVit Processing

WAVit is a processing solution provided by MiCamp, offering a specific type of payment processing service. Details about this service are not explicitly mentioned in the provided content, but it is listed as one of their solutions.

ISV Developer Options

MiCamp Solutions provides options for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), offering developer-focused solutions. These solutions are likely tailored to integrate payment processing capabilities into various software applications.

Here's How They Rate Online

Online Ratings Summary
BBB Reports 23

10 Complaints

MiCamp Solutions currently maintains an “A+” rating with the Better Business Bureau and has been accredited since 2010. The company is showing 10 complaints filed in the past 36 months.

What Merchants Say

MiCamp also has a total of 13 informal reviews filed with the BBB, with 10 of them positive and 2 of them negative. The most recent negative review describes held funds and poor customer service:

DO NOT sign onto Micamp Solutions unless you want to hear ********. There are many competitors who treat their customers with respect and collaborative results. This company is ONLY interested in one thing- holding monies owed. They are OBSESSED with worry about chargebacks for starters, even when the customer has no history of such!Customer ********************** is the frontline to act as though they care- but don’t be fooled. You will be given promises that are scheduled but not witheld. The lack of trust they show mirrors the lack of trust you’ll have for them. The *************** “whatever” **** tells you one thing but does another, then claims that he never said what he did; that he denies ever having said what was originally told and does not work collaboratively to arrive at a fair, honest and amicable solution.Don’t be fooled. There is NO “Solution” to MiCamp. Stay Away!

Clients who find themselves in this situation may obtain some relief by taking steps to cancel their accounts without paying a fee.

An “A” Performance

In light of the company’s low complaint total and resolution ratio, we agree with the BBB’s rating of an “A.”

MiCamp Solutions Fees, Rates & Costs

A Closer Look at The Contract

Cost & Fees Summary
Cancellation Penalties Yes
Monthly & Annual Fees Yes
Processing Rates Interchange-Plus
Equipment Leasing Yes

Multi-Year Agreement

The standard MiCamp Solutions Contract constitutes a multiyear commitment facilitated by First Data (Fiserv), featuring an annual PCI compliance fee of $99, a monthly minimum fee of $20, and a monthly statement fee of $10. Reports from clients have raised concerns about an early termination fee, varying from $250 to $400. However, according to a company representative, MiCamp enforces this fee primarily when covering a business’ termination costs with a previous provider or providing complimentary equipment upon signup. The same representative noted that over 85% of MiCamp’s clients opt for interchange-plus pricing.

The merchant agreement also outlines equipment leasing through First Data Global Leasing. Lease terms sometimes result in payments exceeding equipment value, causing merchants to pay $1,000 or more for terminals available for $500 or less.

WAVIt Fixed Rate Structure

Alternatively, clients can choose to enroll in WAVit. This pricing model allows businesses to charge a fixed rate for in-store, online, and card-not-present transactions. The fixed MiCamp Solutions rate is determined by an analysis of the company’s monthly sales volumes and other factors. This plan includes a five-year fixed rate guarantee, ensuring consistent monthly rates. MiCamp Solutions’ website indicates that this pricing model is accessible to clients processing anywhere from $5,000 to $5 million monthly.

Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway

In addition to storefront payment processing services, MiCamp Processing also advertises its virtual terminal and payment gateway services. However, pricing details are not disclosed for these services. Additional rates and fees, including gateway fees, technical support fees, batch fees, and additional transaction rates, typically apply to these e-commerce services.

Comparison to Industry Standards

Overall, there is a low-to-moderate volume of complaints about MiCamp Solutions’ rates and contract terms, particularly regarding unexpected fees. This suggests a moderate performance level, especially when compared to the most cost-effective merchant accounts in the industry. We also encourage business owners to explore our comprehensive list of the top-rated merchant account providers.

Inside/Outside Sales Team

MiCamp Solutions appears to utilize telemarketing, inside sales reps, strategic partnerships, referral partnerships, and independent sales offices to market its services. A company representative has stated that MiCamp is currently working to grow its inside sales channels in order to have more control over sales tactics and pricing. Despite this, we have located a moderate number of negative MiCamp Solutions reviews that cite nondisclosure and misrepresentation of rates and fees by the company’s telephone and in-person sales reps. This does not compare favorably to our list of best credit card processors.

No Deceptive Quotes

The MiCamp complaint total has slightly lowered its rating to a “B” in this category. To its credit, however, the company does not appear to engage in deceptive rate quoting in its official materials. If you suspect that MiCamp has added a hidden markup to your monthly statement, you can double-check it with a third-party statement audit.

Our MiCamp Solutions Review Summary

Our Final Thoughts

The company can improve its overall rating by reducing the costs of its service and minimizing the number of complaints associated with its sales team. I have been using MiCamp for a payment processor for 2 years and originally signed a contract with one Wes Ruthowski stating my Address Verification Service is $0.01 per transaction. MiCamp was actually charging me $1.99 per transaction for the Address Verification Service, and I did not notice due to the reason below. When I signed up with MiCamp, the data entry specialist working my account made an error and had my statements sent to the wrong address. Doing taxes this year (2023), I noticed micamp has never sent me a 1099k, and asked what address they had on file. When they informed me of the erroneous address I corrected it. Upon receiving my old statements I looked over them and discovered that micamp had been overcharging me hundreds of dollars each month totaling over $4500 throughout the entire time doing business with micamp. When I called to inform them of this error they said there was nothing they could do. When I threatened micamp with legal action they sent me an email attempting to gaslight me saying it was interchange. After proving to micamp that it was a separate charge and showing them our original contract, the specialist stated she would talk to the Manager. I attempted to contact the manager through emails and calls, but he ignored me. Finally a specialist contacted me and told me I would be getting less than $400 as a refund, because when I was signed up I was given aggressive pricing. I would like the other $4000 refunded. When I finally got in contact through to their manager, he told me that micamp had barely made any money off of me, and they couldn’t refund the 20x industry standard fees they had been charging, and the best he could do is set my fees to $0.01 going forward. I asked him where the money had been going this entire time and he had no idea. I was told to sit tight and he would find another solution, to never call again. I am shopping for a new payment provider and hope to finish my business with micamp by the end of the month.

I signed up with MiCamp when opening my new store in March 2023. My contract reads rates of 2.25%…. I have been getting charged almost 5%!! Over a month ago my sales rep said I was getting double charged an actual rate and a bundled rate and would see a Refund by end of week… nothing happened…. He also said the account was now set with the correct rate. I was charged double again for June! My rep won’t return my texts anymore. Everytime I call MiCamp they say my account is in rate review… on July 3rd I called and was supposed to hear something within 8–0 days… nothing has happened

I WAS MICAMP FOR NEARLY 8 YEARS. NUMEROUS TIMES I TRIED TO REACH OUT FOR VARIOUS LEVELS OF CUSTOMER SERVICE WHICH WAS NON-EXISTENT. IT EVENTUALLY TOOK ME 5 TIMES TO TRY AND CANCEL THE SERVICE I HAD WITH THEM. DOUG MORELY THE SALES RETENTION OFFICER CHARGED ME NEARLY $1500 TO TERMINATE MY CONTRACT WITH THEM. CARDCONNECT HAS BETTER RATES AND TEN TIMES THE LEVERL OF CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THEY DO.
WHAT A SHAME TO TREAT LONG STANDING CUSTOMERS IN THE WAY THAT THEY DID.

Even after 8 1/2 months, I have still not received the legitimate release of the Reserve Account funds totaling just under $13,000 from MiCamp. I complained to Fiserv who subsequently sent me a letter to confirm the funds were released to MiCamp, even a 2nd time just last June 7th, 2022, and yet MiCamp won’t release these funds to me. I filled a complaint with the BBB and will also with the FTC, I have sent various emails to MiCamp with no response and zero customer service. Fiserv originally responded because I sent a Demand Letter from an attorney whom I hired. My next step is filing a lawsuit against this company for the return of the funds, back interest due, attorney fees and damages. This experience with MiCamp has been a disaster and I strongly encourage anyone considering this company not to do business with them.

Poor Customer Service and tech support. We had them as a preferred servicer for a new practice management system. Their equipment constantly lost connection to our network even after we made the upgrades they requested. We opened a new office and moved the equipment and account there. Their tech support tried to reprogram the machine three times but were never able to get the equipment working. We paid our monthly service fee for 10 months without being able to use their service and they still charged me $350 for cancelling before the 3 year agreement.

Phillip Parker have you contacted Richard Velazque to find out the actual story was regarding the initial review? Your posted review is incorrect, old and should be taken down. Here is what Richard conveyed to our team:

Richard Velazque reached out to our MiCamp Retention Team and gave us 4 Stars.:

Unfortunately BBB does not seem to have a process for updating reviews, they only seem to update complaints. When I could not update the review I emailed the BBB asking for an update to be made. I assumed it had been done. It has not been updated… so today I posted a second review and submitted it. Hopefully that process will catch someone’s attention and get the review updated.

This complaint is unfounded and should be removed. This is an account we inherited when we acquired emerchant authority. MiCamp Solutions did not create Kathy Worley’s issues. Acquisitions have some risk of inheriting accounts such as this, totally out of our control and not how we conduct business.

  • LARBY AMIROUCHE

I opened a new account with MiCamp this year but will not credit our account, as far as I am concerned they have stolen $75,000.00 from my company. I cannot get anyone to call me. We opened a new merchant account this February. Everything was fine at first, we got a few deposits, no problems. That’s why they got us, they stopped abruptly on 5/13 and we were unable to refund customers which caused chargebacks and they had the nerve to hold all of our money!!! Our merchant ID is 536927230402091, we are also referred to as ‘The Merchant’ constantly, or by our merchant ID, all of which is dehumanizing and very rude. It has been over six months and they won’t release our money that is being held.

Mandi our Merchant Services Rep nor Micamp They won’t tell us how much they are holding, they refuse to provide any visibility into what they are doing with our money and they have had so many people that I have lost count interject in email threads at MiCamp, nobody tells us anything!!!!!! I have been trying to resolve this issue now for many months and they ignore every email sent and our ISO Micamp Merchant Services claims First Data Merchant Services is the only organization that has any control over this account. They are messing with my money, which I have not sent over 50 times and still cannot get someone to call me back, it is outrageous. Today is 9/15, we are speaking with our lawyer tomorrow afternoon. This company is a den of thieves. I’m going to go to the media, CNN, FOX NEWS, ABC, all of the places., also on social media and I hope MICAMP and First Data are out of business soon enough.

I want my money and I want the deposits made as the contract states and I need that done NOW!!!!!!!!

Phillip Parker – I would suggest to take this down as it is proven lie.

Larby’s account was held up by risk. He had a significant amount of chargebacks. Larby Amirouche took all of his reviews down because his issues were not related or caused by MiCamp Solutions. Since then, Mr. Amirouche was charged Larby Amirouche with conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, bank fraud, making false statements to banks and conspiracy to commit money laundering. These charges are brought in connection with a series of internet marketing schemes that utilized internet e-commerce websites to defraud consumers and financial institutions.

I have found them to be very unprofessional the insist on trying to charge fees for services I have not been receiving in months. They do not tell you this when you first speak to them. They are very deceptive in their customer service and the people who handle the contracting are always busy and inaccessible. I would characterize them as scammers.

Kelly Engelhardt had a merchant account with us for years under the name Synergy Home Care. Based on what I can see she did not notify us that the account was not being used to process payments for some months after she had stopped processing on it. The account has been closed since 2018.

BEWARE!! As a new business I was originally called by these people saying that they could help me accept cards through on of their subsidiaries MiCamp. We agreed to a set amount each month plus the percentage from the cards that I processed. I told them I was a new business and that I didn’t process cards but rarely if at all. However they said it would only be $5 per month and then the percentages. I figured this wasn’t so bad until they kept taking $30 out of my account every month. I finally had to put a stop payment on my account in order to keep them from withdrawing from my bank account. Months later I got a letter in the mail saying I owed them eight hundred and some change. I gave them a call and Mary Betzold was busy so they said she would give me a call back. I agreed and next thing I knew I never got a call back except from a collection agency. I would’ve been happy to settle up with them but they didn’t give me a call back for some time and then sent me strait to collections. All for a company that I never used. I feel tricked but it sounds like they do it a lot to all the small business guys. TONS OF HIDDEN FEES… I would steer wayy clear of this company.

    • Steve

I get a monthly fee of about average $21 a month along with another variable fee per month average around $200. I also get charged directly from some of the payments/ credits to my account. The fees are so vague to me. I was told I’d be charged a monthly fee of 14 to 20 dollars each month that is the only steady fee and a consistent one. I hate the way I’ve been getting charged by this company. One month I received 2 debits as a fee totaling over $500 dollars. I’d also steer clear of MiCamp.
I’ll post a review of the customer service call to see if they can clearly explain the fees.
