Company Overview

Vend is a cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) system for iPad, PC, and Mac that was originally created in Auckland, New Zealand, but has since expanded to include headquarters in San Francisco, Melbourne, and Toronto.

In 2021, Vend was purchased by Lightspeed. It appears the Vend brand is still operating, but there are indicators that it may be absorbed into Lightspeed.

Vend Point of Sale

As a cloud-based POS, Vend enables merchants to accept debit cards, credit cards, cash, and other forms of payment at a physical location using only an iPad, laptop, or desktop computer. The software also offers e-commerce solutions, inventory management, and real-time reporting.

Vend POS Integrated Payment Partners

Vend is partnered with WorldPay, Moneris, PayPal, Square, Chase, Paymentsense, iZettle, Tyro, Payment Express, Commonwealth Bank, Afterpay, Yoco, Verifone, and SmartPay as its integrated merchant account providers, but merchants can use other payment processors alongside Vend without a full integration. Vend formerly allowed merchants to integrate their payments with Vend via an Authorize.Net payment gateway, but it has since done away with this compatibility for new merchants.

Vend POS Mobile Payment Solutions

Recognizing the importance of mobile commerce in the contemporary business landscape, Vend POS offers a robust mobile payment service. This service allows businesses to accept and process card payments using a mobile device. It provides flexibility and convenience, especially to businesses that operate outside traditional retail spaces.

Vend POS E-Commerce Services

Given the growth of online shopping, Vend POS provides a secure online payment processing service. Through their reliable online payment gateway, businesses can handle online transactions securely and efficiently, meeting the needs of a digitally connected consumer base.

Vend POS Virtual Terminal Services

For businesses that handle transactions via mail or phone orders, Vend POS's virtual terminal service is a valuable offering. This feature allows businesses to manually enter card details into a secure online system, providing a flexible solution for processing remote payments.

Location & Ownership

Vend POS was founded in 2010 and currently maintains its U.S. headquarters at 2615 Main Avenue, Durango, CO 81301 and lists offices in Melbourne, Toronto, Auckland, and London.  Vaughan Rowsell is the founder and Ana Wight is the CEO of Vend. Alexander Fala is the former CEO of Vend. Jean Paul Chauvet is the CEO of Lightspeed.

Recent Lawsuits No

Low-to-Moderate Complaint Total

We have located over 25 negative Vend reviews on various consumer protection websites, with none accusing the service of being a scam or ripoff. Recurring complaints mention software malfunctions, hardware incompatibility, inadequate customer service, and limited features in Vend’s offerings. It’s often challenging to pinpoint whether these issues originate from Vend, the merchant’s local equipment, or user error. Conversely, the abundance of positive Vend reviews, particularly praising the company’s customer support, suggests a majority of users are content with their experience. It appears that a proactive approach in verifying Vend’s functionalities and compatibility requirements prior to purchase can greatly reduce the likelihood of a negative experience. We encourage you to share your own experiences with Vend, positive or negative, in the comments below for a comprehensive view of the service.

Vend Lawsuits

No outstanding class-action lawsuits or Federal Trade Commission (FTC) complaints against Vend have been identified as of now. Clients who are dissatisfied and seek non-litigious resolutions are advised to report their grievances to the appropriate supervisory organizations. It’s important to note that in 2019, Vend was involved in a patent-troll lawsuit, a situation typically costly and time-consuming. However, the specific details of this case remain limited in public disclosure.

Vend Customer Support Options

Vend now offers customer support that aligns with the standards of top-rated merchant account providers known for excellent customer service. This enhancement over previous support options has likely contributed to a decrease in customer complaints, reflecting Vend’s commitment to continuous improvement in service quality.

Vend POS Fees, Rates & Costs

A Closer Look at The Contract

Cost & Fees Summary
Cancellation Penalties Yes
Monthly & Annual Fees Yes

Equipment Leasing Yes

Multiple Pricing Plans

Vend offers three tiers of pricing, with the cost scaling based on the size of the business and the number of operational locations. The fees for payment processing differ if a business utilizes Vend’s partnered payment processors, which include WorldPay, Square, PayPal, and CardConnect, or chooses an external third-party processor. Rates from Vend’s partnered processors can reach up to 2.90% plus $0.30 for swiped transactions and 3.30% plus $0.30 for keyed-in transactions. Opting for a third-party processor might limit access to some of Vend’s integrated features, a choice Vend labels as “non-integrated.” Yearly billing clients receive discounts, with specific pricing outlined as follows.

Vend Lite Plan

The Lite plan is Vend’s most affordable option at $119 per month ($1,188 when billed annually) per outlet. It supports one location, one register, up to $20,000 in monthly processing, includes Vend’s POS app, real-time inventory management, round-the-clock support, sales reporting, and a Xero accounting integration.

Vend Pro Plan

Priced at $159 per month ($1,548 annually) per outlet, the Pro plan expands on the Lite offering with up to five locations, no limit on transaction volume, advanced promotional tools, gift card support, access to all add-ons and e-commerce channels, API access, and enhanced multi-location management.

Vend Enterprise Plan

The Enterprise plan is tailored for larger operations, offering custom pricing. It encompasses all Pro features with support for over five locations, a personal account manager, and customized onboarding solutions.

Contract and Pricing Feedback

Online feedback regarding Vend’s pricing and contract terms is scarce, indicating a generally positive reception among users. Vend also promotes the opportunity for businesses to secure below-average processing rates through its partnered processors, potentially offering competitive value compared to the most cost-effective merchant accounts. If you have personal insights or experiences regarding Vend’s pricing or contractual conditions, your input is welcomed in the comments section below.

In-House Sales Team

Vend appears to market its services primarily through conventional advertising and an in-house sales staff. Vend does not appear to employ independently contracted sales agents, and there are no Vend complaints that accuse the company’s representatives of deceptive sales tactics. If you suspect that Vend is overcharging you, you can double-check your bill with a third-party statement audit.

No Deceptive Quotes

Vend lists its pricing clearly on its website and does not promote any misleading rate quotes or unrealistic guarantees. Given the lack of red flags in the company’s official marketing materials and the absence of client complaints about its sales team, we have assigned it an “A” in this category.

Our Vend POS Review Summary

Our Final Thoughts

Vend rates as a quality cloud-based credit card processing POS system for businesses of most sizes and types. The service has received praise for its ease of use, affordability, and software integration capabilities, but some clients have expressed a desire for a more reliable, versatile system overall. Business owners should compare Vend’s pricing and features to those offered by the top-rated POS providers for iPad in order to obtain the best deal.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Rude and unhelpful. None of their staff knows their product and are all VERY condescending. They lied about hidden costs multiple times. They dodge phone calls. Please, do not use.

Hi Phillip and anyone else reading this,

Thanks for the glowing review, always nice to get feedback and it’s clear you’ve done your homework! As for the critique on feature offerings, we agree there are some features missing from Vend right now but with helpful feedback from the community we’re adding new things every month. The company is growing quickly and with that comes new avenues for feature development and integration with third-party technology. Pretty soon we also hope to bump that 20/6 phone coverage up to 24/7 as well. It’s an exciting time to be in retail and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.

If anyone reading this would like to know more check out our site (www.vendhq.com) or feel free to contact me directly: [email protected]

    Cheers,
    Oli – Vend Community Support
