UPDATED 3/15/2019: MeritCard Solutions was acquired by Paysafe Group in 2016 and has since been fully absorbed into the Paysafe brand. The MeritCard Solutions website redirects to the Paysafe homepage, and it appears that MeritCard is no longer an independent entity. We therefore will no longer update this review. See our Paysafe Group review for up-to-date information about this company.

A “PaySafe Company,” MeritCard Solutions, LP (meritcard.com) is a merchant account provider for a wide variety of industries. There is some evidence that the company relies on First Data for its processing network. Established locally in 2007, Meritcard Solutions is located at the address 311 S Cesar Chavez Blvd, Dallas, Texas 75201. MeritCard Solutions LP is a registered ISO/MSP of Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. of Walnut Creek, California; Deutsche Bank, USA, New York; Woodforest National Bank of Houston, Texas; and Merrick Bank Corporation of South Jordan, Utah. Aimee Scorcio is listed as the CFO of Meritcard Solutions, while Chris Shultz is listed as the company's principal.

Key Points

MeritCard Solutions Customer Reviews

Here's What Their Clients Say

Customer Reviews Summary
Total Online Complaints <10
Live Customer Support Yes
Most Common Complaint N/A

As of this update, we are only able to locate one MeritCard Solutions complaint, which is found in the comment section of this website. The complainant stops short of accusing MeritCard of being a scam or a ripoff, but they do mention difficulty with the company’s fraud prevention policies and overall customer service. It is unclear whether MeritCard services its own accounts or outsources its customer support to First Data; in the latter case, it seems likely that other complaints from MeritCard clients would be redirected to First Data’s online profiles. Even given this possibility, the overall number of verifiable MeritCard complaints is exceedingly low.

MeritCard Solutions has been an accredited business of the Better Business Bureau since 2009 and currently maintains an “A+” rating. Within the last three years, zero complaints have been registered. The company also has not received any informal reviews, although it should be noted that these reviews are not always subject to verification by the BBB. In light of these figures, we agree with the BBB’s rating at this time.

MeritCard Solutions Fees, Rates & Costs

A Closer Look at The Contract

Cost & Fees Summary
Swiped Rate Variable
Keyed-in Rate Variable
Early Termination Fee Variable
PCI Compliance Fee $99
Equipment Lease Terms Variable

At the time of this review, there is very little publicly available information regarding the standard MeritCard Solutions contract. The company is showing no public complaints that specifically mention its contract terms, and we are currently unable to verify whether the company exclusively resells the services of First Data. The MeritCard Solutions Merchant Program Guide is available below, but the only specific terms it mentions are a standard five-year agreement and a possible early termination fee. There was also a complaint filed with the BBB at one point that mentioned a PCI compliance fee of $99. The company’s extensive use of independent sales agents makes it likely that its contract terms will vary greatly depending on the agent setting up the account and the merchant’s business type, size, and time in business. Since the only explicitly listed term we can locate regarding MeritCard’s standard contract is an uncommonly long five-year service agreement, we are awarding the company a “B” in this category. See the MeritCard Program Guide.

Should You Work For Them?

Jobs & Marketing Summary
Employs Independent Resellers Yes
Advertises Deceptive Rates No
Discloses All Important Terms No

MeritCard Solutions partners with ISOs, independent resellers, and outside agents to market its services. One of the company’s resellers is Processing Strategies, LLC (processingstrategies.com). The use of resellers is a common hiring practice within the industry that tends to result in elevated complaint rates among merchants. In this case, we are currently unable to locate any negative MeritCard reviews that mention the company’s sales team. The company also does not appear to engage in any deceptive advertising strategies in its official materials. We therefore award MeritCard Solutions an “A” in this category.

Our Final Thoughts

MeritCard rates as a better-than-average merchant account provider according to our rating criteria. The company is showing very few complaints online, but there is not a great deal of available information regarding its standard contract terms. There is some indication that the company is a reseller of First Data’s services, so it’s possible that merchants can expect the basic First Data contract terms from MeritCard.

Unfortunately, I am very disappointed with the tail end of my experience with Meritcard. I have sent about 15+ emails and called half a dozen times to get clarification on a charge that was made to my account. I simply asked for documentation that I signed where I agreed to such charge and they have been radio silent after stating they would send me such documentation. Totally bummed after 4+ years of using them. If I agreed to it, all good. I would accept it, but right now it just seems like a fraudulent charge. Would have totally recommended or used them again for future business endeavors but now, I would say stay away. Personal opinion.

STAY AWAY!!!!! Run for your lives and for the sake of your business. I processed through these guys and they give you the run around and have terrible terrible customer service. It has taken over a week to receive funds from accounts we processed 6 days ago. I call to find out why and they cant even tell me why. They told me they needed “Authorization verification” so I spent an entire day getting together paperwork and tracking down agreements of clients I have had for years to “verify”. Later I was told I didnt need to do that and that I would receive partial funds but not my AMX of over $5k.

These guys cant tell which way is up. DO NOT trust your merchant funds with such an irreputable company; you will be at risk of terrible customer service and a lack of competence that is unparalleled in the industry. RUN, RUN, RUN!!
