Company Overview

SecurePay, also known as Secure Pay, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of eVance Processing. The company was originally acquired by Pipeline Data in 2002, but when Pipeline went bankrupt, Calpian Commerce purchased Pipeline's assets and took over the SecurePay brand. Calpian was then acquired by the Excel Corporation in 2015 and merged into the eVance Processing brand. In 2018, all of these brands were acquired by OLB Group. According to the company's website, it has a transaction volume of $1.3 billion, processes 23.5 million transactions each year, and currently supports 8,500 merchants.

SecurePay Payment Gateway

SecurePay is not a merchant account provider itself but instead a payment gateway provider for eVance's credit card processing services. Merchants may still interact with SecurePay when setting up and using their merchant accounts, but SecurePay may not be directly involved in their pricing or contract terms. SecurePay's primary selling feature is the security of this gateway, which uses SecureGuard enhanced security encryption to defeat fraud. SecurePay should not be confused with an Australia-based company called SecurePay, which appears to be a completely unrelated organization.

Point of Sale Systems from SecurePay

SecurePay offers point-of-sale (POS) systems that help businesses manage in-person transactions. These systems come equipped with features that can track sales, manage inventory, and produce analytical reports, providing businesses with a comprehensive overview of their operations.

SecurePay's eCommerce Solutions

Mobile Payment Processing with SecurePay

SecurePay also offers a mobile payment processing service. This service provides businesses with the capability to accept card payments through mobile devices, offering flexibility for businesses that operate in various locations or have a mobile operation.

Merchant Cash Advance by SecurePay

SecurePay offers a merchant cash advance service. By purchasing a share of the business's future sales, SecurePay provides businesses with access to immediate capital, providing a potential solution for businesses that need to manage cash flow effectively.

Location & Ownership

Although the SecurePay website lists 960 North Point Pkwy #400, Alpharetta, GA 30005 as the location of SecurePay, the Better Business Bureau lists the company's address as 1515 Hancock St, Quincy, Massachusetts 02169. The company is a registered ISO/MSP of BMO Harris Bank, N.A. of Chicago, Illinois; of Meridian Bank of Devon, Pennsylvania; and of Wells Fargo Bank of Walnut Creek, California. Ronny Yakov is the CEO of OLB Group.

Moderate Complaint Total

The number of negative SecurePay reviews is moderate for its size and time in business, and many were posted before 2013. Most of the SecurePay reviews also name its parent and sister companies, such as Pipeline Data, Cynergy Data, and Charge.com. The common themes in many of the SecurePay complaints are reports of surprise/undisclosed fees, holding of funds without notice, and poor customer service. When researching SecurePay complaints, businesses should be sure to search for both “SecurePay” and “Secure Pay.” If you have your own SecurePay review to make, please do so in the comments below.

SecurePay Lawsuits and Fines

We have not found any outstanding class-action lawsuits or FTC complaints filed against SecurePay. Dissatisfied clients who wish to pursue a non-litigious course of action against the company should consider reporting it to the relevant supervisory organizations.

SecurePay Customer Support Options

SecurePay advertises 24/7 support but seems to conduct all support via an email ticketing system. It is unclear whether clients who are dissatisfied with email support can escalate the issue to a phone support line.

SecurePay Online Ratings

Potential Profile Confusion

As of this review, the Better Business Bureau is reporting an “A+” rating for SecurePay and stating that the company has not received BBB accreditation. It’s important to note that complaints about SecurePay may end up on the BBB profiles of Calpian Commerce, Pipeline Data, Cynergy Data, eVance Processing, Chyp, or OLB Group in error since these appear to be the parent companies of SecurePay.

What Merchants Say

SecurePay previously received 1 informal review to its BBB profile, which was negative in tone. The review mentions being signed up against the client’s knowledge and bad customer service:

I’d give zero stars if I could. This service was slipped into a a credit card processing contract I signed with ***** ******* Credit Card Processing in 2002 for a 4 year contract with equipment. We were advised to get rid of it when we got a new system in 2015. My manager called in 2015 to cancel but the fees of 30.95 kept coming out. A year later we called again and a different manager told me she had cancelled. The fees kept coming out and I think we all just got used to seeing them and thought they were a credit card processing fee. The years passed. Recently I was investigating our past credit card processors for a class action lawsuit and came across the email from my manager in 2016 saying SecurePay was cancelled. I asked my manager if she was seeing these withdrawals still. She found that they had been withdrawing that amount monthly even now. She called a VP of operations named Donna and asked to have the account cancelled and asked for a refund of the most recent 30.95 taken from our account. She was told to email a cancellation and that a refund would be sent as “time allowed”. This was my third time being told by a manager I trusted that the account was cancelled. I called Donna myself to make sure it was cancelled and to ask for 1500 back ( at that time I thought the charges went only back to 2016). She refused to refund any money, said she would send the contract I signed and said she needed a “form” filled out. My manager then told me no form was sent by Donna. When I questioned Donna about this Donna stated by email that she did not say the word “form” to me but that she had said she needed written confirmation by email. She also stated in her email that my manager had erred by sending the email to customer service instead of sending to a cancellation email at securepay. She did send me the old contract which happily has the old MID number that I can add to the class action lawsuit against shady credit card processors. That is my only stroke of luck. All I can say is in 2002 I had negative money as we were building the veterinary facility and these people took full advantage of my lack of knowledge of this industry to line their pockets. If you want to add yourself to the lawsuit against shady processors that leased you equipment between 2004 and 2012 contact Neil C******* at I have now contacted my banker to refuse all ACHs from this company. The only reason no merchant has given this company a bad review is because the “services” are wrapped into equipment leasing deals. When I asked Donna what service they had been providing my company for 17 years. She stated they were a check guarantee company. Merchants just figure the 30.95 is for some piece of the merchant fee. That’s what we thought. We just became used to seeing the fee in the account. We never once in 17 years had any communication from them about making use of the check guarantee service.

Understanding how to cancel a merchant account without paying any fees is imperative to ensure that an account is closed and that no recurring fees will be charged.

An “A” Performance Overall

In light of these figures, we agree with the BBB’s rating at this time. Business owners should note, however, that there are reasons to be skeptical of the BBB’s rating system.

SecurePay Fees, Rates & Costs

A Closer Look at The Contract

Cost & Fees Summary
Cancellation Penalties Yes
Monthly & Annual Fees Yes
Processing Rates Variable
Equipment Leasing Unclear

Variable Contract Terms

Pricing and SecurePay contract terms for its services may vary depending on how the account was obtained and by business type and processing volume; however, the company’s standard pricing when combined with an eVance Processing or Chyp merchant account appears to be more expensive than average.

SecurePay Payment Gateway Fees

Since eVance owns SecurePay, the company essentially “double dips” by first charging the transaction fees for the eVance merchant account. Then SecurePay tacks on an additional 0.25% for “Qualified” transactions or 1% for “Mid-Qualified” and “Non-Qualified” transactions (the most common type of transactions), plus an additional $0.25 per transaction. This means that clients processing with eVance through the SecurePay payment gateway could be paying upwards of 4-5% per transaction, which is higher than average. It’s unclear if the company combines its monthly fees with those of eVance, or if businesses will experience different monthly fees from both companies.

Recurring and One-Time Fees

Based on client reports, SecurePay fees may also include a PCI compliance fee of either $59 or $15 per month and an Early Termination Fee (ETF) in excess of $400 for canceling service before the expiration of the service agreement. As of this review, the length of SecurePay’s standard service agreement is unclear, and it’s not apparent whether the ETF is charged by SecurePay or the merchant account provider. In either case, the company’s contract terms are not competitive with those offered by budget-friendly merchant account providers.

SecurePay Employee Reviews & Sales Tacitcs

Should You Work For Them?

Jobs & Marketing Summary
Uses Independent Resellers Yes
Telemarketing Likely
Misleading Marketing No
Discloses All Important Terms No

Inside/Outside Sales Team

SecurePay’s services appear to be marketed primarily through independent distributors and resellers. The company’s credit card processing can also be obtained directly from SecurePay or packaged with a merchant account from a third-party processing company. We have located no negative SecurePay reviews alleging deceptive sales tactics, but a few of the companies with which it is associated have suffered complaints regarding misleading marketing and sales practices.

This does not compare favorably to our list of best credit card processors.

No Deceptive Quotes

SecurePay does not prominently list any misleading rate quotes or unrealistic guarantees in its official materials. If you suspect that the company is overcharging you, however, you can confirm it with a third-party statement audit. Given the company’s lack of complaints, we are assigning it a grade of “A” for the time being.

Our SecurePay Review Summary

Our Final Thoughts

SecurePay is hard to rate as a credit card processing provider because it is merely the payment gateway used by OLB Group affiliates. The reviews of the service are mixed; however, the reviews of its parent and affiliate companies are poor. Business owners would be wise to read and understand all service agreements before signing, and to compare them to those offered by highly rated e-commerce providers.

We were advised to cancel SecurePay when we switched credit card processors to Elavon in 2015. Our manager called in 2015 to cancel and the 30.95 continued to be withdrawn. Our next manager called and was told it was cancelled in 2016. In the process of investigating all our past credit card providers for a class action lawsuit I asked my manager if she had seen any withdrawals from Secure Pay.(I think each manager thought the 30.95 was related to our current card company and we all got used to seeing it go by in the account. )She had just seen one and checked and they were withdrawing all the way back to 2014. My manager called SecurePay 2 weeks ago and was told it was cancelled and that the 30.95 that just came out would be refunded when “time allowed”. I then called the VP of
operations Donna who stated she will not cancel any account without a form. When my manager said she was never sent a form by Donna when she called about the account, Donna revised her statement saying she needed “written request ” by email. Also she stated my manager had erred by sending email to their service email and not the cancellation email. She also refused to refund the 1500 of funds taken from my account over the past 4 years.

Next I called my banker to take care of this and he found out they have been charging me since 2002. Donna did send me my old contract. I signed the form when I thought I was getting credit card equipment for a 4 year lease with First Horizon Credit Card Processing. So now we are putting a stop payment on Securepay. Apparently when I signed up for credit card equipment ( and this is equipment I don not even remember getting because the next year I was locked into a 7 year contract with Golden Eagle to lease equipment) they slipped in the securepay form. Donna said the service I was receiving was a check guarantee service and 30.95 is the base price. Not one email or promotion of this guarantee service was sent to us in 17 years. We never used the service because we never knew we had it. The 4 year lease for card processing equipment expired in 2006 and these folks just kept on taking the money out. I would give these folks an F. They have completely ripped us off and Donna was quite defensive on the phone when I told her that they were ripping us off and I was about to call the Massachusetts Attorney General. Do I really need to know she is 77 years old and has worked for the company forever? I think not. The only reason this company does not have a zillion negative reviews is because people do not even know that this fee is slipped in by the credit card processor. Merchants do not know that this is supposedly a check guarantee service. Why would they want to remind you that they guarantee checks when they can collect a regular minimum fee and never be presented with a bad check?

Total scam, purchased a car cover and now secure pay notified me that my personal and account information has been hacked and stolen. Not sure what to do, I’m just a consumer not a secure pay customer.

  • Kari Layland

I had been using securepay to process credit cards for my small business. In 2013 they closed my account and opened a new account, supposedly with better terms than my previous account. As a busy business owner I hadn’t been watching my account as carefully as I should have, but recently I noticed that there were PCI fees being taken from my checking account 3 times a month on a monthly basis in the amounts of $59, $15 and $15. $89 a month for the past 2 years.

This didn’t seem right to me, since I had been completing the PCI compliance forms quarterly as required to stay pci compliant. So I contacted securepay and was informed that these fees were charged based on my account that was CLOSED in 2013. They claim that I logged in to the closed account and attempted to process a card, which I according to them, jump starts billing to the closed account. I never requested to re open this account and was not notified that there would be new charges.

For 2 years at this rate that’s over $2000 that was taken from my account, without my consent, from an OLD account who’s contract is no longer valid. So you’d think they’d apologize for their mistake and refund my money right? No, they refused to return any of the funds that were basically stolen from my account beyond 60 days. They drained $2136 from my account over 2 years (if my numbers are accurate) and have offered to refund $150 of it.

Their reason being I didn’t tell them soon enough. Be aware of this company and watch your bank account. They can’t be trusted and are unwilling to do what is right even knowing they are in the wrong.

WARNING! Horrible scamming jerks. Took hundreds of dollars out of my account for charges they were by contract, not entitled to. Refused to return the money. Refused to connect me with upper management. Never returned my phone calls. Before I quit, I emptied the bank account that they had access to, in order to insure they could not scam me on my way out. They are damn fortunate that the amount they stole did not quite rise to a level that would motivate me to file formal complaints with the authorities.

In my opinion, this site [SecurePay.com] is more than a scam site, but outright illegal in their tactics. I second the warning to NEVER do business with this company. They have refused to release monies from credit cards I have run, charged me $450 cancellation fee and have continued to pull money from my bank account as a monthly fee…grrrr.
PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

  • Jim

Please keep the info flowing….just got into a situation with these folks and not happy. Seems I let us accept a card over/ outside of our limits. Can you believe that?.
Their Risk Management people are totally unprofessional! Our Good customer can’t believe our funds are in limbo …. got the termination letter etc.
Haven’t checked personally yet, but I understand from another posting that their BBB rating is an “F” on a scale of A-F on the Georgia site….Gee I wonder why!
    Suzanne…hope you’re successful

    DO NOT GO WITH SECUREPAY!!!!

I have had the WORST experience with securepay. Three months after cancelling my service with them, they are still withdrawing money from my account. I have called multiple times and told that I will be credited, which has not happened yet. I was also just told that I will have to pay over $400 for a cancellation fee.
I was sure that I had checked about a cancellation fee when I signed up and was told they did not have one. So I called back and talked to sales, explained to them that I was interested in opening an account and sure enough…they told me I could go month to month , no cancellation fee….etc. I am willing to continue this fight, but if it is not resolved soon I will be filing a law suit.
