UPDATE 2/27/2019: The True Payment Solutions website currently redirects to the Central Payment Corporation website. We cannot find any evidence that the company has changed its name, so it appears that the True Payment Solutions brand has been absorbed into the Central Payment Corporation brand. We will continue to monitor the company for a return to the market under a new name, but we will no longer update this review. If you have information about the current status of True Payment Solutions, please leave a comment below this review. For current information about this organization, see our Central Payment Corporation review.

Moderate Complaint Total

We are currently able to locate over 35 negative True Payment Solutions reviews, and some of these complaints describe the company as a ripoff. Common issues cited in these complaints include higher-than-expected fees, undisclosed cancellation penalties, aggressive sales tactics, and poor customer service. There are also some complaints from employees of True Payment Solutions who feel they were not adequately supported or fairly compensated. In its official responses to merchant complaints, True Payment Solutions sometimes holds merchants to the terms of the contract despite their claims of deception. In other cases, the company issues a refund.

True Payment Solutions Support Options

This is a moderate complaint total for a company that has been in existence since 2010, but the consistent increase in complaints since our last update has lowered the company’s score in this section to a “C.” True Payment Solutions offers phone and email support information on its website, but this is not enough to rank it as a top merchant account for customer service.

Over 50 Complaints

True Payment Solutions currently has an “A-” rating with the Better Business Bureau and has been accredited since 2012. The company has received 57 complaints in the past three years, with 29 related to product or service problems, 24 due to billing or collections disputes, and four having to do with advertising or sales. The company has successfully resolved seven of these complaints, while the remaining 50 either were not resolved to the satisfaction of the complainant or did not receive a final response from the complainant.

What Merchants Say

True Payment Solutions has also received 31 informal reviews from merchants, with 23 of them positive in tone and eight negative in tone. The most recent review came from a merchant who struggled to cancel service:

I would not advise using them. I literally had to change me checking account to get them out of it. Kept charging me for an account that was not even up and going yet. Called several times and finally a supervisor named Ashley had my number qued straight to her phone. When I asked for a higher supervisor she wouldn’t push me through to one. I had been there customer over 3 years with my previous account. And do to them not wanting to fix it and wanting to charge me 500 to terminate the new account that may I add no terminal was ever installed and I had an understanding we would set everythjng in motion 2 weeks prior to opening second business. I am being charged because that created an account when agent gave me his personal phone numbet to call when i wad ready to proceed. So they not only lost the new account but I stopped using them after 3 years and 6 months with my first account. When I told them I wanted to cancel the first one told it would be 350 to get out of it and I told her it had been over the 3 year window and was informed it renews automatic for another 2 years. I would be very careful of getting roped into this credit card processing company.

It appears that this merchant could benefit from taking the proper steps to cancel a merchant account without paying a fee.

A “C” Performance Overall

Considering the company’s complaint total and resolution ratio, we have adjusted the BBB‘s rating to a “C.”

True Payment Solutions Fees, Rates & Costs

A Closer Look at The Contract

Cost & Fees Summary
Swiped Rate Variable
Keyed-in Rate Variable
Early Termination Fee $300-$550
PCI Compliance Fee Variable
Equipment Lease Terms Non-Cancellable

Three-Year Contract

According to merchant complaints, the standard True Processing Solutions merchant agreement is simply a CPAY contract (available below), which consists of a three-year agreement with an early termination fee of up to $550, a $195 application fee, a $9.50 monthly fee, and an annual fee of $99 that may or may not be a PCI compliance fee. The company also appears to sell long-term, non-cancellable equipment leases that can ultimately cost thousands of dollars.

Unreliable Savings Projections

Multiple merchants report that some of these fees as well as the company’s per-transaction fees are misrepresented or not disclosed at the time of the sale. Specifically, they claim that their sales representatives assured them that the contract could be cancelled anytime without penalty, or showed them a savings comparison that was not ultimately honored. As with the company’s sales tactics, these complaints mirror those filed against CPAY.

Potentially Costly Terms

The available details about True Processing Solutions rates and fees suggest that the company deserves a “C” in this category, and that it is far from ranking as one of the cheapest merchant account providers. See the Central Payment Corporation Merchant Agreement.

Many Sales Complaints

Like Central Payment Corporation, True Payment Solutions appears to utilize a combination of in-house sales agents, independently contracted sales agents, and referral partnerships to market its services. The use of independent agents is typically tied to high complaint totals within the industry, and True Payment Solutions appears to be no exception. The company is currently showing more than 20 complaints that describe misrepresentation of fees, nondisclosure of contract terms, and high-pressure sales tactics by True Payment Solutions representatives.

Poor Follow-Through

Merchants most commonly claim that the company’s actual rates are higher than those quoted by sales agents. Many merchants also state that their sales agents promised to pay their current termination fees or provide on-site equipment installation only to never follow through. These complaints are similar to complaints that have been filed against CPAY, which suggests that their may be some overlap between the two companies in either sales practices or employees.

Average Approach, Average Performance

It appears that each merchant’s experience with True Payment Solutions will likely come down to the sales agent they work with, so it’s important to ensure that you are in contact with someone you trust. If you suspect that True Payment Solutions is hiding fees in your contract, we encourage you to seek a third-party statement audit to find and eliminate hidden fees. True Payment Solutions has been assigned an average rating of “C” in this category.

Our True Payment Solutions Review Summary

Our Final Thoughts

An Average-Rated Provider

True Payment Solutions rates as an average merchant services provider according to our rating criteria. The company’s sales practices and contract terms appear to closely mirror those of Central Payment Corporation, a poorly rated provider on CPO. True Payment Solutions claims to provide petroleum merchant accounts, veterinary merchant accounts, auto repair merchant accounts, salon merchant accounts, and many other industry-specific service, but its pricing does not appear to be especially tailored for any of these sectors. Merchants are encouraged to request and review all relevant documentation before signing up for service.

Instead of True Payment Solutions there name should be True Rip off…Don’t sign a contract with them. They will make you pay for years and years….They say after 6 years I am finally done….I will see…

    Dear True Payment Solutions,
I am sending this message do to the horrific experience I have had with canceling service with TPS.
Years ago I had used TPS as a credit card service. After review of services I learned that I could get better rates with one of your competitors and switched services. Due to an accounting oversight the TPS account remained open. I continued to be billed monthly fees for over a year with ZERO credit card transactions being processed. Zero contact from a TPS personnel to enquire about the lack of activity. Zero contact with any sales representative for additional or enhanced services. Zero contact from a real person to strengthen a business relationship or show concern for the wellbeing of our business. The mail wasn’t even being delivered to the business address.
Over the course of more than a year fees were charged without any service being provided. When the situation was brought to the attention TPS customer service department (specifically Maria and Ashley at 866-207-1546) immediate cancellation or suspension of the account was adamantly refused. Even with a full understanding of the situation the customer service department refused to fulfill my request to immediately terminate the account. I was nothing more than a number. So now your wonderful company of True Payment Solutions is saying that I owe an additional two months of service fees for ZERO Service. Now your wonderful company of True Payment Solutions has inspired this complaint. Now your wonderful company of True Payment Solutions risks losing potential new and existing accounts. Now your wonderful company of True Payment Solutions has shown a lack of customer service, lack of drive for positive business relationships, and in general lack of moral integrity.
We are all in this for one thing, to be a little better each day. Good luck, and maybe you’ll learn to stop nickel and diming people to death and learn that a positive relationship will bring you tenfold in additional customers instead of losing existing and potential clients with a bad rep.
I want the account closed, balance zeroed, and no further interactions to ever take place between me and True Payment Solutions.
    James Bradford
P.S. In my 35 years of business I have never submitted a written complaint. The situation required it based on moral principal which True Payment Solutions lacks.

Sales reps lied about the rates and no one would help resolve the issue. We had the savings that were promised on paper (written by the rep) and it didn’t help. Cancellation was a bigger nightmare. If you are considering TPS keep looking. If you are a current customer and thinking of cancelling do it early. We thought waiting until our contract was up would be the most honest way to cancel. Ended up costing more in the long run. Pay the early termination fee and get out. Not only did we pay the higher rate during our contract we had to pay a yearly fee and two additional months of “final billing” after the contract was up. For What …Ashley M?

I have been with True Payment Solutions since Oct 2014, I have been having continuous issues with the credit card machine since January 2018. They replaced it because it was a blank screen, but I had to pay the $25 shipping. Because I have been having issues, I inquired about when my initial contract expired, turned out that was 10/2017, standard 3 year contract. The rep said that because I didn’t call in October 2017 my contract AUTOMATICALLY renewed for another two years, I couldn’t believe this because in October I was not having all these issues and spending countless hours on the phone talking to technical support and now I am and they want to charge me $300 anyways to cancel! Unbelievable. They can charge me $300 if I want to cancel my crappy service, but I am not allowed to look for another processing company without getting charged $300. I do not recommend this company. They are conniving & dishonest. I have spent countless hours on the phone programming this darn machine since January and they are unwilling to adjust the cancellation fee. I believe they should waive the cancellation fee or adjust it some. What gets me is they only offered to send me another terminal AFTER I inquired about cancelling their service and cancellation fees. Very unhappy with this company. Would not recommend to an enemy.

DO NOT sign up with this company. They have the worst business practice I have ever experienced. True Payment solutions is a scam, they rip off small businesses — they have predatory business practices and take what ever money they can legally steal. I am a small business owner and I would never give a bad review, especially once the company resolved the problem. This company deserves zero stars. They have VERY deceptive sales tactics, terrible customer service, they lie — I cannot believe this company is still in business. Use Square to keep things simple, or sign up with ANY other transaction company but this one. We are counting down the days until our contract ends. (We didn’t end the contract because we were lied to about the $550 contract cancellation fee — even though the service didn’t work for the few first weeks!) I referred True Payment to another business owner (before I realized how terrible they were), that business never received the transaction hardware, and I never received my referral bonus. Absolutely the worst business I have ever dealt with. 4.3 stars on google is not possible, every business I know that used them has dropped them. I considered small claims court but decided to cut my losses. We are still in contract but we run zero transactions through truepayment solutions. Terrible, terrible company!!!!!!

WHY HASNT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT BEEN FILED AGAINST THESE COMPANIES???
THERE HAS BEEN ONE THAT WAS FILED ON CENTRAL PAY AND SETTLED FOR MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!!!
TRUE PAYMENTS SOLUTIONS / CENTRAL PAYMENT CO., LLC

I have been haunted by this company for a few months now.
The sales rep scammed me into signing the contract promising no fees, 2.08% flat fee , no annual fee and I could cancel anytime if I was not happy…The very next day CENTRAL PAY took $50.00 from my company account. Now they are taking more and more money out of my corporate account.
I have never nor will i ever use this company!!!
I have never processed a card through their company. I dont even know how!!!
I Mailed their swiper back to them with returned signature card proving they have it back..
The sales guy even compared SQUARE processing with the Fraudulent TPS on paper while he was in my office!!! This evidence is HUGE I have many, many incriminating emails and corrospondence from them showing their lies.
I would like a law firm that handles CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS contact me or start a lawsuit so we can all be rescued from this corrupt, scam artist who has given us all misleading information.

Company never pays on time and when they do, your check is always missing money, super unprofessional. Stopped working for them and company was very weird paying out sometimes with cash. Worst place to work, it was advised you get paid salary so every extra time you put into it they don’t pay out. They still have not paid me for hours worked its been over month. This company has no morals and ethics.

  • Trophies Unlimited / Leaving My Mark

I have read all the previous reviews & instead of going into much detail I can say that all that has been said negatively about True Payment is true. i have not used them since Oct 2016 & they have taken $375 cancellation fee from my account & continue to take monthly fees from it. I sent cancellation notices twice. They also charged me a yearly fee twice within 3 months. You are making a mistake to do business with this company.

  • Cathy

I have been dealing with this company since May to do an early termination of my merchant account since I sold my business. I was told to fill out a termination form and would be charged a fee. It is now August the fee was not taken from my account and there have been continuing fees taken from my account. Since the business account was closed in Mid June there are now fees in collections. During this time I have talked to tps and was told all was settled.
Then received a letter from collections and on top of that another monthly fee was applied to my account. Also, today i sent a check for the termination fee, for they dont take it out of a debit card. Waited to be told what my collections would be (which i waited for 3 hours for a return call) and because of the lack of interest in fulfilling a simple request I was penalized with 2 months of additional fees and if I refuse to pay this amount it scars my credit. Be aware that if you have to do an early termination that they follow through on their end and not tell you all is fine. This was so unnecessary and show lack of interest for you as a customer because they can hold this over your head.

Back in November, a young man from True Payment Solutions came into our shop soliciting his company. We told him that there’s no way we could get out of our contract with our current provider because there was a very large termination fee (it turned out to be $1,361.00). He called his manager and they looked at our contract and said they could cover $300,00. We told them, No Thanks, that it was going to be well over a thousand dollars. His manager checked the contract again and said that this wasn’t something that we’d have to worry about. We told him that if he could guarantee that we wouldn’t have to pay the termination fee and that they’d handle the transfer that we’d do it. They agreed so papers were signed and we got the new terminal installed. The former provider charged us the $1361.00 termination fee and true payment said they’d reimburse us for it. It is now the end of March, and after a whole lot of back and forth, they are saying that they can only give us $300.00, so we’re out $1,061.00. We’re very disappointed and upset and wish we could turn back the hands of time and never get involved with them. They defrauded us big time.
Is there any legal recourse that we could take at this time? We have not yet accepted the $300.00 that they offered us.

  • Susan Office Manager

This company charges outrageous fees, PCI noncompliance fees when you are compliant, looses cancellation paperwork, says it will take 60 days to cancel an account while charging you for those two extra months, no customer service to speak of once they get you to sign the contract you never hear from them again

  • Christine small business owner

This was a company that had a 90-day trial period by the time we were done with our 40 days and returned the machine on our own shipping costs we got roped into an annual membership fee and it ended up costing us big time. I think this company is a fraud and I think the way it does business is horrible

    • Jill

We signed up a 90 day trial for both locations. We currently have the Square, yea its bad on rates, but we get our deposits every day, there is never a contract, no PCI compliance. We can quit using it whenever we want and start back up anytime. FREE OF Charge..This company here promises us that we will save money. Well we were supposed to get our machine Monday or Tuesday, here comes Thurs so I call. Oh they will be out Friday morning. OK.. Never came. So Monday comes around and We are getting slammed for Valentine’s Day and he comes to hook up machine, nope sorry. We can’t do it, gotta wait till after Tues now, and that’s where we would’ve saved money supposedly. He came back Fri. We told him, we changed our mind. After all that it totally turned us off about trying this company out. And funny thing is we haven’t even heard from the sales rep. From here on out we will stick with the Square POS system.

  • L A Needham Company Inc

To say this company is the worst I’ve ever dealt with would be the understatement of the year. I thought the one had before them was the worst but at this point I’d give anything to be with my previous company. I have 2 stores and I signed up with them first thing they charged me $500 for a credit card machine that they sell for $200 dollars. Then the rates I was supposed to be receiving were not correct I tried to contact my sales rep but to my surprise he had quit the company because of all their shifty antics but fortunately he was kind enough to tell me who to contact to try to straighten up this mess although when I called their answer to me was well your charges are cheaper than your old company. Then the building we rented for one of my stores got foreclosed on and we were forced to close that location entirely so after 6 months of the run around trying to stop being charged monthly for a service we were no longer using I was told that they had no proof we had closed that location and I would be charged $550 dollars to close the account. After numourus calls to a number that said it didn’t work from my area code I was able to contact my former sales rep and he gave me a name and number to the supervisor there so after several calls she finally returned my call and explained the situation and how after 6 months I was now being told I needed proof I had closed that location and she said if I get it to her she would be kind enough to only charge me $275 to close this account that has been inactive since June at a rate of $70 a month for no activity. I then asked to talk to her boss and she told there was no one else to talk to about this situation. I would strongly advise against doing business with this company another credit card rip off company, with no concern for the small businesses they serve all they see you as is dollars not customers

  • Mansfield Woods LLC

This is by my opinion the worst of the worst Merchant Service Company ever. Their customer service does not a timely solution to any problems you might have. If you expect to have your issues with payments or charges resolved don’t look to have that taken care of for at least 6 months. At this point I would rather close my bank account then have to deal with them ever again.
