Anthony Casalena is the founder and CEO of Squarespace, the website building and e-commerce platform he launched from his dorm room at the University of Maryland in 2003. According to our review of Squarespace, the platform offers website building tools along with integrated payment processing and e-commerce solutions for online stores. Casalena holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and served as the company’s sole operator and developer for years, covering roles from engineering to customer support. He was the only employee until 2006 when Squarespace reached one million dollars in revenue. Under his leadership, Squarespace grew into a major platform that was later acquired by Permira in a transaction valuing the company at approximately 7.2 billion dollars. Casalena continues to serve as CEO and Board Chairman.
