Is Merchant Management Group Right for Your Business? Read This Review

We take our role in providing guidance and education regarding the card payment industry very seriously. At our own expense, we have vigorously defended our right to continue expose unethical and predatory practices in the industry, successfully defeating every attempt to silence us. However, fending off frivolous lawsuits is costly. To sustain these efforts, one of the ways we generate revenue is through affiliate partnerships with ethical providers. This means that some of our outgoing links connect business owners to trustworthy, low-cost payment processors, which is what most of our readers seek. We see this revenue channel as a win-win-win for everyone involved. Business owners find good processors, processors get good clients, and we are able to continue to provide a valuable service to the small business community. We also recommend and link to many services that do not compensate us. Our priority is to guide you to the best solutions for your needs, regardless of potential revenue. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us.

MMG has been operating for over a decade, maintaining a commendably clean complaint record compared to industry standards. While it’s plausible that some customer service issues intended for MMG may have been misdirected to First Data (Fiserv) or First Data Global Leasing, there’s no concrete evidence to support this. If you have your own experience with Merchant Management Group, feel free to share it in the comments below.

Google Maps Rating for Merchant Management Group

Merchant Management Group has a 4.3 out of 5 star rating based on 6 user reviews on Google Maps.

Positive Feedback

Our company used MMG for over 25 years . Their customer service and support was amazing . Having a local group to be able to call and any issues being fixed promptly was the best . My family and myself appreciate all the great years as your customers.

Negative Feedback

Horrible customer follow up with MMG we have attempted to resolve an overcharge in excess of $1500 after we cancelled their service. We have made multiple calls, emails and messages to several contacts at MMG over the past 6 months annd no one anttempted to return our calls annd messages. we just get the run around from them. I would not recommend MMG for any services they offer. If Google had negative stars they would get -5 stars for sure. All businesses beware!!!!!!!!

Processing Rates & Fees

Details of the Merchant Management Group Contract

The standard Merchant Management Group contract outlines a three-year agreement with First Data (Fiserv). Specific rates or transaction fees are not detailed in the company’s agreement or program guide, but they are likely similar to those of First Data (Fiserv) as Merchant Management Group is a reseller of their services. It’s important to note that resellers may modify the standard First Data (Fiserv) contract terms.

First Data (Fiserv) typically offers a multi-year contract with an early termination fee of $495, a monthly PCI compliance fee of $19.95, and tiered pricing. Rates for businesses processing up to $50,000 monthly are typically 2.69% plus $0.19 for swiped transactions and 3.69% plus $0.19 for keyed transactions. Higher volume businesses may see reduced rates. Contracts often include non-cancellable equipment leases through First Data Global Leasing.

Potential Concerns and Flexibility

The three-year term and possible equipment lease associated with Merchant Management Group could present challenges, potentially locking clients into long-term contracts with significant early termination fees. However, the contract does provide options to waive the early termination fee or opt out of equipment leases at the time of signing. Merchant Management Group is rated “A” due to minimal complaints about pricing. Nonetheless, business owners should be cautious of potential high fees and might find better value with a more cost-effective merchant account provider.

Employee Reviews & Sales Practices

Company Sales Approach

Merchant Management Group appears to primarily market its services through strategic partnerships and traditional advertising. There is no evidence at this time that the credit card processor employs a large team of independently contracted sales agents, although it is possible that it maintains some independent reseller relationships.

Public Contract Disclosure

We are unable to locate any Merchant Management Group reviews that accuse the company’s sales team of deceptive conduct, and there are no misleading rate quotes or unrealistic guarantees on its website. In fact, at the time of our last review, Merchant Management Group provided copies of its merchant agreement and program guide on its website, which is an uncommon degree of disclosure for any company in the credit card processing industry. However, as of this update, it appears the website has taken down its merchant agreement and program guide. If you suspect that Merchant Management Group is charging you undisclosed fees, we recommend seeking a third-party statement audit to find and eliminate hidden charges.

Compare Merchant Management Group to competitors that earned top marks.

Bottom Line

Merchant Management Group is rated as a reliable credit card processing provider based on all available information. The company is commendably transparent about its contract terms and has received minimal negative feedback from merchants across public forums.

Nevertheless, prospective clients should still inquire about any potential fees and compare the company’s contract terms with those of top-rated providers to ensure they’re getting the best value. We’ll continue to monitor merchant feedback and adjust Merchant Management Group’s rating as more data becomes available, ensuring our assessment reflects current client experiences.
