Card Cutters Customer Reviews

Here's What Their Clients Say

Key Points

Total Online Complaints <10
Live Customer Support Yes
Most Common Complaint N/A

Low Complaint Total

As noted above, we are currently able to locate only 2 negative Card Cutters reviews, and neither review accuses the company of being a ripoff or a scam. One reviewer states that they found themselves locked in a four-year contract with Card Cutters, although they do not specify any details beyond this.

Card Cutters currently maintains a 5.0 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot UK based on 251 reviews. However, we are not inclined to factor a Trustpilot score heavily into our overall ratings due to their policy of allowing companies to purchase limited control of their profiles. All other third-party review sites offer similar praise for Card Cutters, but we cannot give weight to these reviews because they are not transparent about their methodology. Even though it is difficult to determine the veracity of most positive Card Cutters reviews, it is clear that the company has attracted a very low number of complaints. We therefore assign it an “A” in this section. If you have your own Card Cutter review to make, please do so in the comments below.

Card Cutters Lawsuits and Fines

Card Cutters Fees, Rates & Costs

A Closer Look at The Contract

Key Points

Swiped Rate 1.00% - 4.99%
Keyed-in Rate 1.00% - 4.99%
Virtual Terminal Rate £0.12/€0.12 - £0.15/€0.15 Per Transaction
Payment Gateway Fee £15/€15 - £25/€25 Per Month
Early Termination Fee Undisclosed
PCI Compliance Fee Undisclosed
Equipment Lease Terms £9.99 or £24.99 Per Month

18-Month Contract

We are currently able to find only scattered details about the standard Card Cutters contract. The company claims to offer interchange-plus pricing but previously advertised a rate of 0.9% on its homepage with no further explanation. It also states that it does not charge setup fees or authorization fees.

Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway Pricing

In addition to its storefront payment processing services, Card Cutters also dedicates a portion of its website that advertises its virtual terminal and payment gateway services. Since the time of our last review, Card Cutters has revised its e-commerce offering by partnering with Global Payments. The company now offers 2 different e-commerce platforms, one which strictly provides a virtual terminal for MOTO accounts and another more comprehensive option for online payments.

The virtual terminal alone costs £15 or €15 per month depending on the native currency of the merchant. The first 100 transactions through the virtual terminal do not assess any added fees, however, any additional transactions are charged £0.15 or €0.15 thereafter.

Merchants seeking more comprehensive e-commerce services that facilitate both MOTO and online payments can select the Cart Cutters Ecommerce Inc. E-Terminal Plan. This plan costs £25 or €25 per month and provides a higher volume of 350 transactions without any added fees. Additional transactions are charged £0.12 or €0.12 thereafter.

Competitive Pricing

In general, Card Cutters’s contract terms seem fairly standard for the UK, although whether or not it charges an early termination fee will determine whether it can compete with the cheapest merchant accounts. As of this review, we are unable to find any information about a possible cancellation fee from Card Cutters. We are also able to find only one Card Cutters complaint about its contract terms or pricing, which has resulted in an “A” for this category. If you have any knowledge of the standard Card Cutters contract (including any monthly minimum fees or early termination fees), please share that information in the comment section below this review. We also encourage merchants to check out our list of the providers of the best merchant accounts.

Outside Sales Team

Card Cutters appears to rely primarily on independent sales representatives and traditional advertising to market its services. The use of independent agents is commonly tied to high complaint rates within the credit card processing industry, but Card Cutters appears to defy this trend. We are currently unable to locate any Card Cutters reviews that mention deceptive tactics by the company’s sales team. In addition, Card Cutters has been promoting interchange-plus pricing, the most transparent pricing model available, since January 2015. This compares favorably to our list of best credit card processors.

Confusing Rate Quotes

Despite its commitment to interchange-plus pricing, the Card Cutters homepage advertised “Credit card rates only 0.9%” at the time of an earlier update. It’s unclear whether this was a flat rate quote or the company’s standard markup over interchange, but there was no further explanation of this quote. We consider this type of rate quoting to be deceptive because it could give merchants an unrealistic expectation of the rates they will pay. It’s likely that Card Cutters offers some pricing model involving this 0.9% figure, but merchants should never expect to receive an effective rate of 0.9%. The company has since removed this quote from its website, but you can ensure that other rates aren’t lurking in your contract with a third-party statement audit.

Our Card Cutters Review Summary

Our Final Thoughts

Solid Option for UK Businesses

Card Cutters rates as a reliable all-purpose merchant services provider for UK businesses. It is difficult to sort through all of the company’s sales copy and positive testimonials, but the general absence of Card Cutters complaints has ensured a high rating for the company at this time. We will continue to monitor merchant feedback about Card Cutters and adjust our rating as necessary. Merchants who are interested in a low-cost alternative to Card Cutters may be better served by a UK mobile credit card processor.
