Should You Use Card Cutters? Full Review Inside

We take our role in providing guidance and education regarding the card payment industry very seriously. At our own expense, we have vigorously defended our right to continue expose unethical and predatory practices in the industry, successfully defeating every attempt to silence us. However, fending off frivolous lawsuits is costly. To sustain these efforts, one of the ways we generate revenue is through affiliate partnerships with ethical providers. This means that some of our outgoing links connect business owners to trustworthy, low-cost payment processors, which is what most of our readers seek. We see this revenue channel as a win-win-win for everyone involved. Business owners find good processors, processors get good clients, and we are able to continue to provide a valuable service to the small business community. We also recommend and link to many services that do not compensate us. Our priority is to guide you to the best solutions for your needs, regardless of potential revenue. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us.

Products & Merchant Services

Payment Processing

Card Cutters processes major debit and credit cards for a variety of business types.

POS Terminals

POS terminals are devices used by businesses to process customer payments, often seen in retail, hospitality, and service industries. They include features like card readers, receipt printers, and software for tracking sales and inventory.

Mobile Payments

Mobile payments enable customers to complete transactions using their smartphones or other mobile devices, usually through apps or contactless NFC technology.

EMV Card Readers and Swipers

EMV card readers are designed to read the microchips embedded in modern credit and debit cards, providing enhanced security compared to traditional magnetic stripe readers. Swipers, on the other hand, are still widely used but are becoming less common due to the higher risk of fraud associated with magnetic stripes. EMV technology has become the global standard for card payments.

Fundraising Services

Fundraising services typically include tools that help nonprofits, schools, and other organizations raise money more efficiently. These platforms often integrate donation pages, event ticketing, and reporting tools, making it easier for organizations to manage their campaigns and track contributions.

e-Commerce Solutions

Epos Now, Zash ePOS, and Zettle offer businesses comprehensive e-commerce solutions. Epos Now provides a cloud-based system that integrates with various apps to streamline online and in-store sales. Zash ePOS is another platform known for its simplicity, offering small and medium-sized businesses tools for selling online and managing transactions. Zettle, owned by PayPal, focuses on mobile and online payments, catering to entrepreneurs looking for an all-in-one solution to accept payments both online and offline.

Customer Reviews & Sentiment

Low Complaint Total

Currently, only 2 negative Card Cutters reviews have been located. Neither accuses the company of fraudulent practices. One review mentions an unexpected four-year contract, but lacks detail. Card Cutters has a 5.0 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot UK with 251 reviews. While impressive, it’s important to note Trustpilot allows companies some control over their profiles, which might affect credibility. Other third-party sites also show positive feedback, but due to unclear review methodologies, these are taken with caution. Despite this, the low complaint volume is notable. We invite you to share your own Card Cutters review in the comments.

Card Cutters Lawsuits and Fines

No significant class-action lawsuits or FTC complaints have been found against Card Cutters. Merchants seeking alternative dispute resolution methods may consider reporting to appropriate supervisory bodies.

Positive Feedback

Card Cutters was a great choice for our small shop. The rates are affordable and they didn’t overcomplicate things with extra fees or confusing terms. Setup was quick and we’ve been able to focus on customers instead of tech issues.

Positive Feedback

We run a bed & breakfast and I used Card Cutters about a year ago to find the best rate for card services. They found us a very good deal for both merchant services and terminal hire and the process for setting all this in place went very smoothly. They continue to provide us with excellent support whenever required. I would have no hesitation in recommending Card Cutters.

Tried a few card terminal suppliers over the years and card cutters are the best.
I have been with card cutters for 4 years now. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They are honest and reliable and go out of their way to help.
My card fees are lower with them than other providers which is the main reason I chose them. Very impressed with all aspects of the company

Negative Feedback

Terrible company, with atrocious customer service and even worse customer care and that is how they treat you when they are trying to win your business……….

Processing Rates & Fees

18-Month Contract

We are currently able to find only scattered details about the standard Card Cutters contract. The company claims to offer interchange-plus pricing but previously advertised a rate of 0.9% on its homepage with no further explanation. It also states that it does not charge setup fees or authorization fees.

Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway Pricing

In addition to its storefront payment processing services, Card Cutters also dedicates a portion of its website that advertises its virtual terminal and payment gateway services. Since the time of our last review, Card Cutters has revised its e-commerce offering by partnering with Global Payments. The company now offers 2 different e-commerce platforms, one which strictly provides a virtual terminal for MOTO accounts and another more comprehensive option for online payments.

The virtual terminal alone costs £15 or €15 per month depending on the native currency of the merchant. The first 100 transactions through the virtual terminal do not assess any added fees; however, any additional transactions are charged £0.15 or €0.15 thereafter.

Merchants seeking more comprehensive e-commerce services that facilitate both MOTO and online payments can select the Cart Cutters Ecommerce Inc. E-Terminal Plan. This plan costs £25 or €25 per month and provides a higher volume of 350 transactions without any added fees. Additional transactions are charged £0.12 or €0.12 thereafter.

Competitive Pricing

In general, Card Cutters’s contract terms seem fairly standard for the UK, although whether or not it charges an early termination fee will determine whether it can compete with the cheapest merchant accounts. As of this review, we are unable to find any information about a possible cancellation fee from Card Cutters. We are also able to find only one Card Cutters complaint about its contract terms or pricing, which has resulted in an “A” for this category. If you have any knowledge of the standard Card Cutters contract (including any monthly minimum fees or early termination fees), please share that information in the comment section below this review. We also encourage merchants to check out our list of the providers of the best merchant accounts.

Employee Reviews & Sales Practices

Outside Sales Team

Card Cutters appears to rely primarily on independent sales representatives and traditional advertising to market its services. The use of independent agents is commonly tied to high complaint rates within the credit card processing industry, but Card Cutters appears to defy this trend. We are currently unable to locate any Card Cutters reviews that mention deceptive tactics by the company’s sales team. In addition, Card Cutters has been promoting interchange-plus pricing, the most transparent pricing model available, since January 2015. This compares favorably to our list ofbest credit card processors.

Confusing Rate Quotes

Despite its commitment to interchange-plus pricing, the Card Cutters homepage advertised “Credit card rates only 0.9%” at the time of an earlier update. It’s unclear whether this was a flat rate quote or the company’s standard markup over interchange, but there was no further explanation of this quote. We consider this type of rate quoting to be deceptive because it could give merchants an unrealistic expectation of the rates they will pay. It’s likely that Card Cutters offers some pricing model involving this 0.9% figure, but merchants should never expect to receive an effective rate of 0.9%. The company has since removed this quote from its website, but you can ensure that other rates aren’t lurking in your contract with a third-party statement audit.

Bottom Line

Card Cutters stands out as a trustworthy, versatile merchant services provider for businesses in the UK. While navigating the company’s extensive marketing materials and glowing testimonials can be overwhelming, the relative scarcity of complaints about Card Cutters supports its high current rating. However, merchants seeking a budget-friendly alternative might find greater value in exploring UK mobile credit card processors. These options often provide competitive pricing and flexibility, particularly for small or mobile businesses looking for cost-effective payment solutions. Ultimately, each merchant should carefully evaluate their unique needs and the potential benefits of various service providers before making a decision.
