Sales & Marketing
Key Points - Sales & Marketing
|Employs Independent Resellers||Yes|
|Advertises Deceptive Rates||No|
|Discloses All Important Terms||No|
ChargeToday partners with banks, associations, and independent sales agents to market its services. The use of independent sales agents is often linked to high complaint rates among merchants, but we are currently unable to locate any ChargeToday reviews that accuse the company’s sales agents of unethical behavior. In addition, ChargeToday does not appear to engage in any deceptive advertising strategies in its official materials. We will therefore award the company an “A” rating in this section.
Costs & Contract
Key Points - Costs & Contract
|Early Termination Fee||$250|
|PCI Compliance Fee||Variable|
|Equipment Lease Terms||Variable|
The standard ChargeToday contract (available below) is a three-year agreement with automatic one-year renewal and a $250 early termination fee. The application provides spaces for sales agents to list PCI Compliance fees, monthly minimum fees, and other fees, but these spaces are blank in the document we have located. We cannot find any complaints that mention specific ChargeToday contract terms at this time, so merchants are advised to carefully read their merchant agreements before signing. Given the information we are able to verify about ChargeToday’s contract and the lack of merchant complaints about the company’s rates and fees, we are assigning the company a “B” in this category. See the ChargeToday Merchant Agreement.
Complaints & Service
Key Points - Complaints & Service
|Total Online Complaints||<10|
|Live Customer Support||Yes|
|Most Common Complaint||N/A|
We are currently able to locate only one ChargeToday complaint online, and this complaint does not accuse the company of being a ripoff or a scam. Filed more than five years ago, the negative review mentions unauthorized fees and poor customer service. Given its age, this complaint is not a major factor in the company’s score at this time. The company’s website lists dedicated phone support and email support contact information, although it is unclear at this time whether these lines of communication are serviced by ChargeToday or Cynergy Data. Overall, the company has a very low complaint rate and therefore scores well in this category.
Key Points - BBB
|Product & Service Complaints||0|
|Billing & Collection Complaints||0|
|Advertising & Sales Complaints||0|
|Guarantee & Warranty Complaints||0|
ChargeToday is an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau. As of this update, the company has an “A+” rating with the BBB and has had zero complaints filed against it in the last 36 months. It also has not received any negative informal reviews, although it should be noted that these reviews are not subject to verification by the BBB. It is our belief that “A+” ratings should be reserved for companies with clean complaint records, and we therefore agree with the BBB’s rating.
About Phillip Parker
Hi, I’m Phillip and I’m disgusted by the state of credit card processing in the U.S. and abroad. I believe that the industry has been overrun by people who engage in fraud and deception in order to steal money from hard working business owners. I’ve made it my mission to expose the companies and individuals who engage in predatory marketing, pricing, and contracts, or just provide terrible service. Along with uncovering the bad guys, I’ve also discovered the good guys who do stand out from the status quo. CPO is a website where you will find ratings and reviews of these companies along with advice on how to save money and which service providers consider. Together we can move the industry in a positive direction.
