Is Workwell Technologies the Right Fit for Small Businesses?

We take our role in providing guidance and education regarding the card payment industry very seriously. At our own expense, we have vigorously defended our right to continue expose unethical and predatory practices in the industry, successfully defeating every attempt to silence us. However, fending off frivolous lawsuits is costly. To sustain these efforts, one of the ways we generate revenue is through affiliate partnerships with ethical providers. This means that some of our outgoing links connect business owners to trustworthy, low-cost payment processors, which is what most of our readers seek. We see this revenue channel as a win-win-win for everyone involved. Business owners find good processors, processors get good clients, and we are able to continue to provide a valuable service to the small business community. We also recommend and link to many services that do not compensate us. Our priority is to guide you to the best solutions for your needs, regardless of potential revenue. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us.

About Workwell Technologies

Workwell Technologies Homepage

Workwell Technologies, previously known as Processing Point, is a small business solutions provider specializing in point-of-sale and back-office management software. Formed in 2005, the company recently changed its name but does not appear to have changed anything about the services it offers.

On the credit card processing front, Workwell Technologies appears to outsource many of its services. The payment gateway utilized by Workwell Technologies is outsourced to Authorize.net, and Harris Bank has been contracted to perform back-office functions such as reconciliation and settlement. Domestically, transaction processing appears to be facilitated through Paya, formerly called Sage Payments. This basically means that Workwell Technologies is more of a sales and service organization that resells credit card processing services; in other words, it doesn’t actually process payments. One of the main draws for Workwell Technologies is the ability to service international merchants via the company’s partnership with Payvision.

Point of Sale Systems

uAccept

The uAccept point-of-sale (POS) system is a versatile solution available in two sizes: a large standard terminal and a smaller, tablet-like version. Both versions feature a built-in printer, providing flexibility to suit different business needs.

Positive Feedback

Workwell Technologies helped us streamline time tracking, payroll, and payments all in one place. The system is intuitive and saves us hours every week. It’s been a huge upgrade in how we manage both our team and our transactions.

Workwell Technologies BBB Rating

At the time of this review, Workwell Technologies maintains an “A+” rating with the Better Business Bureau and the BBB report shows that Workwell Technologies has been BBB accredited since January 2010. The company has had 2 complaints reported within the last 36 months. Both complaints were either resolved to the dissatisfaction of the merchant or received no final contact. Workwell Technologies has a 1 out of 5 star rating based on 2 user reviews on the Better Business Bureau website.

What Merchants Say

In addition to those 2 complaints, the company has also received 1 informal review on its BBB profile, which is negative in tone. The client cites frustration with unexpected charges and poor customer support:

For over a month, I have been attempting to contact Uattend to dispute being overcharged as per their fee schedule. No one will answer the phone and unable to speak to management. Their service requires that you provide a credit card to pay for service. The fee are based on the number of users. When the number of users decreased, they continued to charge the credit card the fee for more users than were using the platform. Several months went by before we discovered that we were overcharged. When we contacted the company to request a credit, we were told that it was our responsibility to notify them of the decreased number. We agreed to do so going forward, however, they should credit us for having overcharged us now that we made them aware. After a month of going back and forth VIA EMAIL, they refused to issue the credit or accept or return any phone calls. I am disputing the charge based on the principle of the matter, not the amount of money. They publish a fee schedule but then charge your credit card more than advertised. Further, they will only communicate by email. There is no way to resolve the issue as you cannot speak to management.

This client will benefit from taking the steps to understand which contract terms should be avoided to prevent charges like those incurred by this client.

An “A” Performance Overall

Given the company’s low complaint total, we agree with the BBB’s rating. Readers should note, however, that there are good reasons to be skeptical of the BBB’s rating system.

Google Maps Rating for Workwell Technologies

Workwell Technologies has a 4 out of 5 star rating based on 22 user reviews on Google Maps.

Positive Feedback

We are a small business that has been using Workwell for almost a year and we have been extremely happy! The system is simple and intuitive, the hardware is sleek and durable, and any questions I have have been answered promptly by their team. Recently, our finger scanner stopped working, and customer service was very helpful! Would definitely make the purchase if you are debating!

Processing Rates & Fees

Workwell Technologies Pricing Options

Workwell Technologies provides flexibility for new merchants by allowing the integration of their existing credit card processors with Workwell’s POS system. Additionally, the company extends its merchant account services for businesses without existing payment processors. Pricing tiers include a qualified rate of 1.59% plus $0.10, a mid-qualified rate of 2.49% plus $0.10, and a non-qualified rate of 2.99% plus $0.10. Monthly gateway fees are set at $9.95, with transaction costs of $0.10 each. Notably, the standard contract with Workwell Technologies is devoid of early termination fees and does not bind clients to multi-year commitments, a flexibility favorable to many small businesses. The company’s POS system hardware is available for one-time purchase prices: $449 for an 8″ model, $649 for a 9.7″ model, and $849 for a 15.6″ model. Additional offerings include a $129 barcode scanner, a $279 external receipt printer, a monthly POS system fee of $49, $19 monthly for each additional POS system, and $19.99 monthly for the uText service. Notably, businesses using customer tipping via the BridgePay gateway on a uAccept POS device with certain merchant accounts might face higher rates for manually swiped credit card transactions.

Terms May Vary for Additional Services

Given Workwell Technologies’ range of services, including integrated accounting software and employee management systems, the terms for these services might differ. Business owners are advised to thoroughly review contract terms and be clear about the entities they are engaging with. Comparing presented terms with those from cost-effective merchant accounts is recommended for informed decision-making.

Employee Reviews & Sales Practices

Services Through uAccept

The website for Workwell Technologies presents the company as the umbrella organization to all of its cloud-based business services, but its specific role through uAccept is to provide an all-in-one point-of-sale system and act as a sub-ISO that resells the processing services of Paya and Payvision. Since Workwell Technologies relies on these other two entities for its credit card processing, Workwell Technologies is chiefly in the business of matching clients with appropriate Paya and Payvision contracts and then supplying a POS system for these clients.

No Deceptive Advertising

Workwell Technologies does not appear to use any deceptive marketing tactics, and the lack of complaints about the company indicates that it deserves an “A” in this category. If you are concerned that Workwell Technologies is overcharging you, we recommend seeking a third-party statement audit to eliminate hidden fees.

Bottom Line

Workwell Technologies’ credit card processing service, uAccept, functions primarily as a point-of-sale system paired with either a Paya processing account (for domestic businesses) or a Payvision account (for international merchants). The company appears to offer flexible contract terms and exceptional customer support, both of which have helped it maintain a spotless public complaint record over the last three years. This positions Workwell Technologies as a formidable competitor among the top credit card processors.

Despite this impressive track record, it’s crucial for readers to thoroughly review the terms of any contract they receive and diligently research the companies they choose to work with, regardless of the company’s rating. This careful approach ensures clients find solutions that align with their operational needs and safeguard their interests.
