Is DalPay a Safe Choice for Online Businesses?

We take our role in providing guidance and education regarding the card payment industry very seriously. At our own expense, we have vigorously defended our right to continue expose unethical and predatory practices in the industry, successfully defeating every attempt to silence us. However, fending off frivolous lawsuits is costly. To sustain these efforts, one of the ways we generate revenue is through affiliate partnerships with ethical providers. This means that some of our outgoing links connect business owners to trustworthy, low-cost payment processors, which is what most of our readers seek. We see this revenue channel as a win-win-win for everyone involved. Business owners find good processors, processors get good clients, and we are able to continue to provide a valuable service to the small business community. We also recommend and link to many services that do not compensate us. Our priority is to guide you to the best solutions for your needs, regardless of potential revenue. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us.

Closely linked to high-risk processor CCNow, DalPay has built a reputation for serving international merchants with flexible payment options. We’ll also discuss its strategic growth through acquisitions, including the purchase of CashU in 2014 and mobile payment company Handpoint in 2022, which have helped expand its global reach and mobile capabilities. This review will give you a clear understanding of DalPay’s services, focus areas, and evolving role in the high-risk payment processing industry.

DalPay Gateway vs. DalPay Retail

DalPay is divided into two organizations: DalPay Gateway and DalPay Retail. DalPay Gateway appears to exclusively focus on providing e-commerce software for airlines and travel businesses, while DalPay Retail offers international e-commerce plugins for all retail business types. Both divisions operate under the DalPay brand, but DalPay Retail is more likely to be the entity that a merchant deals with.

Customer Reviews & Sentiment

Exploring DalPay Reviews

Our investigation has uncovered over 50 negative reviews about DalPay, with some customers labeling the service as a scam or ripoff. These grievances often intertwine DalPay with CCNow, suggesting a shared identity or operational relationship for the purpose of this analysis. A notable portion of these criticisms, dating back to 2010 and earlier, originate from customers dissatisfied with purchases made through the CCNow Marketplace, reporting issues such as defective products or failure to receive items. The customer service provided by DalPay in these instances has been characterized as lacking or entirely absent. We encourage individuals to share their personal experiences with DalPay in the comments section below.

Concerns Over Fund Holds

An increasing number of complaints have been directed at both CCNow and DalPay regarding fund holds, with some merchants reporting delayed payments extending up to a year, involving substantial sums. While fund holds can occur with high-risk and international processors, DalPay’s communication regarding its fraud prevention policies has been criticized, impacting its reputation in this area.

High-Risk Merchant Advisory

In light of a surge in complaints over the last year, particularly concerning fraudulent transactions through its online marketplace and a noted absence of customer support, DalPay’s suitability for high-risk merchants is questioned. This situation has necessitated a revision of DalPay’s rating as a precautionary measure for businesses operating in high-risk sectors.

Customer Support Offered by DalPay

DalPay facilitates customer inquiries through an online request form, a dedicated email, and phone support available from 9 am to 5 pm GMT. Notably, expedited customer service incurs a $100 fee. Feedback from merchants indicates dissatisfaction with DalPay’s handling of disputes, particularly its tendency to favor customers in chargeback situations without timely notification to merchants. The lack of responsive customer service has resulted in DalPay being viewed unfavorably compared to other merchant service providers renowned for exceptional customer support.

Negative Feedback

Scamsters. This iphoneimei.net company is tied up with scamsters and charge extra money from your credit card as hidden fees, and never returns them . Be away from paying through Dalpay.
I emailed them 13 times asking for a refund, they hardly redone back and eventually ignore. Poor customer service.
I got proof of the mail chain, if anyone is interested to go through.
Be careful and avoid this seller.

I Work with them as my payment processor company, for a few years.
The service was correct, although lately delays in some payments.
A few months ago they stopped offering the service to me.
They had to pay my last weeks collected and the 6 month amount reservation.
They decided to pay me the entire amount in a single payment, which they would release 6 months after the end of the service.
After 6 months…. I did not receive the money, I am waiting for 3 extra months that I still have not received my payment, total 9 months for an amount of € 460
After many emails, tickets, just only two responses … sorry we will do it as soon as we can.
I start to think money is lost….

no reply to tickets, emails.
They just steal my money.
I do not recommend working with Dalpay , at the end of your relationship you will not receive the deposit and the last weeks … Dalpay will NOT PAY your money!!

Snorrason holdings (CCNow and DalPay) took my 50.000 and don’t want to pay – all my efforts are vain, my lawyer says their privacy policy is written to allow them take the merchants’ money and never pay. I don’t know what to do…

Processing Rates & Fees

DalPay Retail Pricing

DalPay Gateway doesn’t disclose its pricing, but DalPay Retail presents various transaction and incidental fees. Similar to CCNow, DalPay Retail applies a standard fee of 4.9% plus $0.40 per transaction and a CASHU fee of 7.0% plus $0.50 per transaction. DalPay doesn’t charge setup fees, monthly fees, batch fees, dormant account fees, or early termination fees. Additional fees include a $29 account compliance charge (refundable after account verification), a chargeback fee ranging from $25 to $50, a $10 SWIFT bank wire fee, a $15 supplier error fee, a $100 custom checkout design fee, and a $100 per hour expedited technical support fee.

Comparative Pricing

DalPay’s per-transaction fee of 4.9% plus $0.40 is notably higher than most e-commerce competitors. However, it accommodates a broader range of business types, including digital goods and auction-style sellers. While its setup fee is comparable to Authorize.Net, it’s higher than free services like Stripe or Braintree. Overall, DalPay’s pricing is less competitive than the top-rated e-commerce merchant services providers, yet slightly more costly than other offshore merchant accounts.

Cost Considerations

DalPay’s transaction fees may be prohibitively high for many standard-risk merchants. While its low-commitment contract and broad range of acceptable business types might attract international, high-risk, and digital goods businesses, an increasing number of complaints suggest it may not serve these sectors effectively. Business owners should also explore our list of the top merchant account providers.

Lawsuits & Legal History

To date, no major class-action lawsuits or FTC complaints against DalPay have been identified. Merchants seeking non-litigious resolutions to disputes with DalPay are advised to report their issues to appropriate oversight bodies.

Employee Reviews & Sales Practices

No Sales Complaints

DalPay primarily markets itself through its website and through strategic partnerships. There is no indication at this time that the company employs an in-person sales force, and we cannot find any DalPay reviews that describe misleading or aggressive sales tactics. This compares favorably to our list of best credit card processors.

No Misleading Marketing

There is also no indication that DalPay engages in deceptive advertising in its official materials. The DalPay Retail website lists a wide range of potential rates, although these DalPay rates should not be considered comprehensive. If you suspect that DalPay is charging you undisclosed fees, we recommend seeking a third-party statement audit to find and eliminate hidden charges.

DalPay Competitors

Compare DalPay to competitors that earned top marks.

Bottom Line

CCNow currently rates as a below-average credit card processing provider for e-commerce businesses. Recent years have seen a sharp increase in complaints, many citing issues with fund holds. Additionally, a significant number of customers ordering through the CCNow MarketPlace have reported fraudulent transactions, further tarnishing the company’s reputation. While standard-risk businesses might still consider CCNow, high-risk merchants should approach with caution. They may face higher risks of negative experiences due to the rising complaint trends. It would be advisable for high-risk businesses to explore top-rated high-risk merchant account providers as an alternative.

Location & Ownership

Although DalPay is based at The Harbour Square Building, Hafnartorg, Dalvík, Iceland, it appears that the company still does most of its business with U.S. merchants and converts all payments to USD by default. The BBB also lists a Minneapolis address for the company at 333 Washington Ave N STE 300, Minneapolis, MN 55401. The company’s current processor and acquiring bank are not listed on its website. Bjorn Snorasson is listed as the CEO of Snorasson Holdings.
