Company Overview

In operation since 2007, Ensight Merchant Services is a merchant account provider that serves retail, e-commerce, and wireless merchants. There is some evidence that Ensight relies on First Data (now Fiserv) for its processing services.

Ensight Merchant Services Payment Processing

Ensight Merchant Services processes most major credit and debit cards for most business types. Their services include virtual terminals, access to a payment gateway, mobile and wireless solutions, MOTO, EMV readers and card swipers, Clover POS solutions, gift card programs, QuickBooks integration, e-check and ACH processing, and data reporting and analysis. The company relies on the Authorize.Net and First Data Payeezy online payment gateways for e-commerce merchants. Ensight Merchant Services also advertises Clover as a POS solution.

Ensight Merchant Services provides customized merchant accounts specifically designed for mail order and telephone order businesses. These accounts facilitate the processing of major credit cards, aiding businesses in managing remote transactions effectively.

Wireless Services

Ensight Merchant Services Customer Reviews

Here's What Their Clients Say

Customer Reviews Summary
Total Online Complaints <10
Live Customer Support Yes
Most Common Complaint N/A
Recent Lawsuits No

Low Complaint Total

As of this update, we are able to locate two negative Ensight reviews, and they do not accuse the company of being a scam or a ripoff. The complaints, which appear in the comment section of this review, cite frustration with hard-to-reach customer service. Aside from these incidents, it would appear that the company does a great job of resolving client complaints in-house. If you have your own Ensight Merchant Services review to make, please do so in the comments below.

Ensight Merchant Services Lawsuits

We have not found any outstanding class-action lawsuits or FTC complaints filed against Ensight Merchant Services. Dissatisfied clients who wish to pursue a non-litigious course of action against the company should consider reporting it to the relevant supervisory organizations.

Ensight Merchant Services Customer Support Options

Ensight offers a dedicated 24-hour customer support phone line and live agent chat on its website, but it’s unclear whether these lines of communication are serviced by in-house support staff or another company. It is possible that the company’s partnership with First Data (Fiserv) means that clients will deal with First Data (Fiserv) customer service rather than Ensight’s, and as a result, clients might direct their comments to First Data (Fiserv) online profiles. These channels are currently not sufficient to qualify Ensight as a top-rated merchant account provider for customer service.

Given the fact that the company has received so few public complaints in over ten years of operation, we are awarding Ensight an “A” in this category.

Ensight Merchant Services Online Ratings

Here's How They Rate Online

Online Ratings Summary
BBB Reports 0

No Complaints

Ensight Merchant Services currently maintains an “A+” rating with the Better Business Bureau and has been an accredited business since 2018. The company has received 0 complaints on its BBB profile in the past 36 months.

What Merchants Say

Ensight Merchant Services has received 0 customer reviews on its profile with the Better Business Bureau in the last 3 years. A former negative review details an experience from a client who experienced difficulty closing an account:

Closed my account with Ensight Merchant Services on Oct 9th 2018. My bank account was debited every month through March 2019. I had to send numerous emails to get refunded back the money they stole. The refunds were short. Ensight promised to send a check for the shortage, but Ensight never sent the check. Guess they felt entitled to my money, or deserved a tip. Hey Ensight…It was my money, not yours. You lied, you stole, and were unresponsive. I feel bad for anyone that decides to do business with you. Still waiting on what you owe me.

Clients should understand how to close their account without paying a fee to avoid situations like this.

An “A” Rating

At the time of an earlier update, the BBB assigned Ensight an “F” rating and cited the company’s “unauthorized use of BBB name or trademarks” as the only factor lowering its score. Ensight has since removed all improper mentions of the BBB from its website, and the BBB has deleted its accusations about the company from its profile. Given the company’s low complaint total in the length of time that it has had a BBB profile as well as the resolution of improper BBB mentions, we feel that the BBB’s current grade is appropriate. Readers should note, however, that there are good reasons to be skeptical of the BBB’s rating system.

A Closer Look at The Contract

Cost & Fees Summary
Cancellation Penalties Yes
Monthly & Annual Fees Yes
Processing Rates Variable
Equipment Leasing Yes

Ensight Merchant Services Pricing

At this time, there is not a great deal of verifiable information available about the standard Ensight contract. The company’s possible partnership with First Data (Fiserv) means that it could resell First Data (Fiserv) contracts. First Data (Fiserv) offers a wide variety of contract terms and pricing plans, but its standard agreement is typically a multi-year contract with an early termination fee of $495, a monthly PCI compliance fee of $19.95, and tiered pricing.

Businesses that process up to $50,000 each month will receive a swiped rate of 2.69% plus $0.19 and a keyed-in rate of 3.69% plus $0.19. Businesses whose monthly charges exceed $50,000 will receive a swiped rate of 2.29% plus $0.19 and a keyed-in rate of 3.29% plus $0.19. Another facet of these contracts is non-cancellable, long-term equipment leases through First Data Global Leasing.

Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway Pricing

In addition to its storefront payment processing services, Ensight Merchant Services also dedicates a portion of its website to advertising its virtual terminal and payment gateway services. The company offers clients an option between Authorize.Net and the First Data/Fiserv Payeezy gateway. However, pricing will be determined by which gateway provider a merchant utilizes.

Variable Contract Terms

Ensight’s use of independent resellers and its apparent partnership with a large processor mean that its contract terms are likely to vary based on the agent servicing the account and a business’ type, size, and time in business. We have seen no indication that Ensight Merchant Services’ pricing competes with the cheapest merchant accounts. If you have any knowledge of the standard Ensight Merchant Services contract, please leave that information in the comment section of this review.

Independent Sales Agents

Ensight appears to employ independently contracted sales agents and ISOs to market its services. This is a common industry practice that makes it difficult for a company to regulate the behavior of its sales force. In the case of this company, however, we were unable to locate any negative Ensight Merchant Services reviews that mentioned deceptive behavior by sales agents.

Misleading Rate Quote

The home page of the company’s website quotes “rates as low as 0.35%” without any further elaboration. This rate is likely the company’s “Qualified” rate for debit transactions, and the page makes no mention of the “Mid-Qualified” and “Non-Qualified” rates that merchants will pay for the vast majority of their transactions. We consider this type of rate quoting to be deceptive, as it may give clients an unrealistic expectation of the effective rate they will pay. This is a common marketing tactic in the credit card processing industry, and Ensight is therefore awarded an average grade of “B” in this category. If you suspect that Ensight Merchant Services is charging you undisclosed fees, we recommend seeking an independent statement audit to spot hidden charges.

Our Ensight Merchant Services Review Summary

Our Final Thoughts

Ensight Merchant Services rates as a better-than-average credit card processing provider according to our rating criteria. Despite a lack of information about the company’s contract terms and some deceptive rate quoting on its website, the credit card processor is showing only two complaints across all consumer protection websites. Readers are still encouraged to carefully scrutinize the terms of any contract they are given, to compare its pricing to the top overall providers, and to aggressively negotiate contract terms.
