As of this update, we are only able to locate one MeritCard Solutions complaint, which is found in the comment section of this website. The complainant stops short of accusing MeritCard of being a scam or a ripoff, but they do mention difficulty with the company’s fraud prevention policies and overall customer service. It is unclear whether MeritCard services its own accounts or outsources its customer support to First Data; in the latter case, it seems likely that other complaints from MeritCard clients would be redirected to First Data’s online profiles. Even given this possibility, the overall number of verifiable MeritCard complaints is exceedingly low.

MeritCard Solutions has been an accredited business of the Better Business Bureau since 2009 and currently maintains an “A+” rating. Within the last three years, zero complaints have been registered. The company also has not received any informal reviews, although it should be noted that these reviews are not always subject to verification by the BBB. In light of these figures, we agree with the BBB’s rating at this time.

At the time of this review, there is very little publicly available information regarding the standard MeritCard Solutions contract. The company is showing no public complaints that specifically mention its contract terms, and we are currently unable to verify whether the company exclusively resells the services of First Data. There was also a complaint filed with the BBB at one point that mentioned a PCI compliance fee of $99. The company’s extensive use of independent sales agents makes it likely that its contract terms will vary greatly depending on the agent setting up the account and the merchant’s business type, size, and time in business. Since the only explicitly listed term we can locate regarding MeritCard’s standard contract is an uncommonly long five-year service agreement, we are awarding the company a “B” in this category. The company is showing very few complaints online, but there is not a great deal of available information regarding its standard contract terms. There is some indication that the company is a reseller of First Data’s services, so it’s possible that merchants can expect the basic First Data contract terms from MeritCard.
