Should You Choose USB Payment Processing? Full Review Inside

We take our role in providing guidance and education regarding the card payment industry very seriously. At our own expense, we have vigorously defended our right to continue expose unethical and predatory practices in the industry, successfully defeating every attempt to silence us. However, fending off frivolous lawsuits is costly. To sustain these efforts, one of the ways we generate revenue is through affiliate partnerships with ethical providers. This means that some of our outgoing links connect business owners to trustworthy, low-cost payment processors, which is what most of our readers seek. We see this revenue channel as a win-win-win for everyone involved. Business owners find good processors, processors get good clients, and we are able to continue to provide a valuable service to the small business community. We also recommend and link to many services that do not compensate us. Our priority is to guide you to the best solutions for your needs, regardless of potential revenue. If you have questions, please feel free to contact us.

PaymentPop Rating for USB Payment Processing

Negative Feedback

USB was our provider up until 2019 when we stopped taking in office payments. Last month, we received a $995 pull from our bank account with no notice from USB. We have now tracked down the cause of the charge for “unreturned” equipment. The equipment was returned to USB in 2019 after cancellation.

The fact that they would now pull funds from a bank account that they are no longer managing is astounding. We will be working with our bank to correct this as the manager we spoke with is being incredible sketchy with his responses.

Positive Feedback

There are no positive reviews published about USB Payment Processing on the PaymentPop website.

USB Payment Processing BBB Rating

USB Payment Processing is not an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau. As of this review, the company has an “A+” rating with the BBB and has had 1 complaint filed against it in the last 36 months. The complaint was resolved to the dissatisfaction of the client or received no final response.

What Merchants Say

USB Payment Processing has also received 3 informal reviews to its BBB profile, all negative. The most recent review describes aggressive sales techniques:

USB Payment Processing NE, Inc. has called our office on numerous occasions from various telemarketing numbers. As the assistant in the office, I am required to answer any call that comes in. When an attempt is made to verify who the caller is and what they want – as is standard procedure in our office, the caller becomes extremely combative and berates or otherwise verbally abuses whoever is unlucky enough to have answered the phone, which is generally me. I have attempted to request they remove us from their list several times, and in general the caller either hangs up as soon as they hear “remove”, presumably so they can say we didn’t ask, or they respond sarcastically or, on one occasion with threats, before hanging up. The calls never come from the same number twice, and never come from the actual company’s number that is listed on their website. But the caller always identifies them self as “[so-and-so] calling from USB up in Towson.”

This business would be better served by one of our top-rated processors.

An “A” Rating

In light of the company’s complaint total and resolution ratio, we agree with the BBB’s rating at this time. Business owners should note, however, that there are good reasons to be skeptical of the BBB’s rating system.

Google Maps Rating for USB Payment Processing

USB Payment Processing has a 4.6 out of 5 star rating based on 202 user reviews on Google Maps.

Positive Feedback

Our team recently signed with USB Payment Processing and are very happy with their services! Everyone that we have worked with on the USB team has been patient and professional, answering all of our questions and providing workable solutions. We highly recommend!

Negative Feedback

Sales person on the phone was extremely rude to me. Even left a stabbing comment as he hung up the phone. I hope your service is better than your sales people’s attitude.

Processing Rates & Fees

Three-Year Agreement

Specific details on USB Payment Processing’s standard contract, including rates, are not widely available. Based on customer feedback and company responses, it appears their typical agreement involves a 3-year contract through TransFirst, potentially including a $295 setup fee and a $495 early termination fee. Complaints also reference long-term equipment leases through “ABC Leasing,” but details regarding a PCI Compliance fee, annual fee, or monthly minimum fee are not explicitly mentioned.

Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway Pricing

USB Payment Processing offers virtual terminal and payment gateway services, though they haven’t disclosed specific pricing for these options on their website. Merchants should expect possible additional fees such as gateway fees, technical support fees, batch fees, and other transaction rates for their e-commerce services.

USB Payment Processing Contract Terms

While there’s a limited number of complaints about USB’s rates and fees, suggesting customer satisfaction, the known contract terms of the company may not rival the most affordable merchant accounts. However, they seem to align with industry standards. Insights into USB Payment Processing’s standard contract terms are invited in the comments section below this review.

Employee Reviews & Sales Practices

Sales Complaints

USB Payment Processing appears to rely on telemarketing as well as referral, partner, and affiliate networks to market its services. It is unclear at this time whether the company employs independent sales agents, but it is not showing a high complaint volume that might be typically associated with this practice. We are currently able to locate over five USB Payment Processing complaints that accuse the company of poor sales standards, specifically aggressive telemarketing and nondisclosure of contract terms. Company representatives have apologized for the complaints about persistent sales calls, but they have maintained that all pricing and contact information was disclosed at the point of signing. Clients also report nondisclosure of equipment lease costs. In general, this does not compare favorably to our list of best credit card processors.

No Deceptive Ads

As a point in its favor, the company does not appear to engage in deceptive advertising strategies in its official materials. However, the persistent complaints about unwanted sales calls have lowered its score in this section to a “B.” If you suspect that USB Payment Processing is charging you hidden fees, however, we recommend seeking a third-party statement audit.

Bottom Line

USB Payment Processing rates as a reliable credit card processing provider according to our rating criteria. The company has garnered few complaints relative to its size and tenure, and many online reviews feature positive testimonials. However, we currently lack comprehensive details on the standard USB contract, so the company’s rating may shift as more information emerges. Even when considering companies that meet our high standards, we encourage business owners to carefully scrutinize the terms of any agreement and compare USB Payment Processing’s pricing with that of top-rated payment processors.
