Low Complaint Total

We are currently able to locate more than 10 USB Payment Processing reviews, some of which accuse the company of being a ripoff or a scam. Most of these USB Payment Processing reviews report aggressive, persistent sales calls from the company, although some merchants complain of difficulty canceling the service or unexpected fees. There are also a handful of positive USB Payment Processing testimonials to be found online, but their veracity has not been determined at this time. The USB Payment Processing complaint total is low for a company that has been operating since 1996, and there does not appear to be an especially troubling trend among complainants. USB Payment Processing Online Ratings

Here's How They Rate Online

Online Ratings Summary
BBB Reports 4

Under 5 Complaints

USB Payment Processing is not an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau. As of this review, the company has an “A+” rating with the BBB and has had 1 complaint filed against it in the last 36 months. The complaint was resolved to the dissatisfaction of the client or received no final response.

What Merchants Say

USB Payment Processing has also received 3 informal reviews to its BBB profile, all negative. The most recent review describes aggressive sales techniques:

USB Payment Processing NE, Inc. has called our office on numerous occasions from various telemarketing numbers. As the assistant in the office, I am required to answer any call that comes in. When an attempt is made to verify who the caller is and what they want – as is standard procedure in our office, the caller becomes extremely combative and berates or otherwise verbally abuses whoever is unlucky enough to have answered the phone, which is generally me. I have attempted to request they remove us from their list several times, and in general the caller either hangs up as soon as they hear “remove”, presumably so they can say we didn’t ask, or they respond sarcastically or, on one occasion with threats, before hanging up. The calls never come from the same number twice, and never come from the actual company’s number that is listed on their website. But the caller always identifies them self as “[so-and-so] calling from USB up in Towson.”

This business would be better served by one of our top-rated processors.

An “A” Rating

In light of the company’s complaint total and resolution ratio, we agree with the BBB’s rating at this time. Business owners should note, however, that there are good reasons to be skeptical of the BBB’s rating system.

USB Payment Processing Fees, Rates & Costs

A Closer Look at The Contract

Cost & Fees Summary
Cancellation Penalties Yes
Processing Rates 1.00% - 4.99%
Monthly & Annual Fees Yes
Equipment Leasing Yes

Three-Year Agreement

There is very little specific information available about the standard USB Payment Processing rates or contract at this time. According to client complaints and company rebuttals, the company’s standard agreement is a contract through TransFirst that lasts for 3 years and may include a $295 setup fee and an early termination fee of $495. We have also seen complaints about long-term equipment leases through a third party called “ABC Leasing.” We have not located any specific mentions of a PCI Compliance fee, annual fee, or monthly minimum fee.

Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway Pricing

In addition to its storefront payment processing services, USB Payment Processing also dedicates a portion of its website to advertising its virtual terminal and payment gateway services. However, pricing is not disclosed on either of those services. Additional rates and fees, including gateway fees, technical support fees, batch fees, and additional transaction rates typically apply to these e-commerce services.

USB Payment Processing Contract Terms

The low number of complaints about the company’s rates and fees indicates that most of USB’s clients are satisfied with their contract terms, but the company’s known terms – while not competitive with the cheapest merchant accounts– are more or less average for the industry. If you have any knowledge about the standard USB Payment Processing contract, please leave that information in the comment section of this review.

Sales Complaints

USB Payment Processing appears to rely on telemarketing as well as referral, partner, and affiliate networks to market its services. It is unclear at this time whether the company employs independent sales agents, but it is not showing a high complaint volume that might be typically associated with this practice. We are currently able to locate over five USB Payment Processing complaints that accuse the company of poor sales standards, specifically aggressive telemarketing and nondisclosure of contract terms. Company representatives have apologized for the complaints about persistent sales calls, but they have maintained that all pricing and contact information was disclosed at the point of signing. Clients also report nondisclosure of equipment lease costs. In general, this does not compare favorably to our list of best credit card processors.

No Deceptive Ads

As a point in its favor, the company does not appear to engage in deceptive advertising strategies in its official materials. However, the persistent complaints about unwanted sales calls have lowered its score in this section to a “B.” If you suspect that USB Payment Processing is charging you hidden fees, however, we recommend seeking a third-party statement audit.

Our USB Payment Processing Review Summary

Our Final Thoughts

USB Payment Processing rates as a reliable credit card processing provider according to our rating criteria. The company is showing few complaints for its size and time in business, and many online reviews of the company are actually positive testimonials. We are unable to verify many details of the standard USB contract at this time, so the company’s rating may be subject to change as more information becomes available. Even when dealing with companies that rate highly by our standards, we encourage business owners to carefully examine the terms of any contract they are given and to compare its pricing to the top overall payment processors.

USB was our provider up until 2019 when we stopped taking in office payments. Last month, we received a $995 pull from our bank account with no notice from USB. We have now tracked down the cause of the charge for “unreturned” equipment. The equipment was returned to USB in 2019 after cancellation.
The fact that they would now pull funds from a bank account that they are no longer managing is astounding. We will be working with our bank to correct this as the manager we spoke with is being incredible sketchy with his responses.

      uSB Payment Processing NE Inc.

This customer was given free use equipment to process with our company.

When they decided to cancel (Jan 2020), we provided them with cancelation instruction letters to sign. On the letters was instructions to send back the equipment and where to send it as well. They received multiple emails regarding these instructions and unfortunately, they never returned the equipment.

As per their contract they need to return the equipment and get billed nothing or keep the equipment and get billed for it. This is exactly what happened. They never returned the equipment, and they were billed for it.

If they can provide a receipt from us that we would have provided if they dropped of the equipment at our office or a shipping receipt showing it was delivered and signed for by someone in our office, we would be more than happy to return their money. If not, we did exactly what the contract states.

We have had this policy in place for more than 15 years now and almost everyone returns the equipment when they close.

We are very sorry they are not happy about the situation, but had they followed the instructions of the multiple emails and the instructions on the cancel letters they signed we would not be responding to this complaint.

Have been working with USB for 6 years now and have always had quick and courteous service. If only a question or problems with program or processing, everything has been handle with a very professional and friendly manner.

I would not Recommend USB to anyone looking for a reasonable processing company,,, You have to watch your statement like a hawk for all the
nickel and dime fees…THE WORST PART is how they will deceptively lock you into a lease agreement with a very disreputable leasing company to process payments. ABC Leasing has to be THE BIGGEST rippoff i have ever seen…Its disgracefull that USB feels that this is the type of deal they subject their customers to,,,The ONLY redeeming quality of USB would be Jennifer,,, no bad how the ripoff deal was,,she is always helpful and pleasant
Live and Learn,,, Research fully your processing company and who they deal with so you dont get stuck with the BAD DEAL USB stuck us with

  • Steve Cohen

USB Payment Processing has been a nightmare to deal with. The rep told me of the great savings and ease of set up that would be provided with a mobile credit card reader and USB payment processing. After over an hour on the phone and another hour or so filling out forms I was told that they had made a mistake and not set up the account for mobile use. There was no problem in providing us with the service, we needed to fill out more forms and schedule a new “training session”.

I told them that it was more work than it was worth. I had been and still use Square, which is easy and effortless.

USB has debited my checking account repeatedly even though I have never used the service! I have contacted USB on 4 different occasions asking them to stop billing me for services I have never used, and to refund the charges debited in the past. They repeatedly promised to do so, but have not done so.

I would strongly suggest that you use any other service than USB. Whoever you use would likely be better than them.

    • Steve

I am the one who wrote the original review above. USB responded to my review and has done its due diligence in handling my complaint. They apologized profusely for the situation and sent a representative to my office to install and test the card reader.

I am satisfied at this point.

      • Steve Cohen

Despite their apology, they have not followed through on cancelling my account and refunding the charges. Dealing with them has indeed remained a nightmare.

After giving me the runaround they finally said to write them a letter calcelling the service and requesting the refund. I sent the letter October 7, 2015 and today in November 17th, and still no credit.

        Avoid these people.

  • Pam

Their equipment does not work, told to cancel within 24 hours and they did not and still continued to charge my account when we never used their service. When contacted to cancel again they still have not and have made no effort to refund the money they never should have taken out of the account. They also were not supposed to charge an account early termination fee and they tried to tell me there was one and that they would wave the fee but not refund my money. This company is a fraud and I strongly urge your company not to use them.

    • Jennifer Shore

Spoke with Pam, Monday October 14, 2013. Her initial request to close the account was on August 23, 2013.The closure and deposit were completed on August 28, 2013. We have reached out to Pam on several occasions and left messages to advise them that their account has been closed, a full refund had been issued and to inform her that there will not be an early termination fee since they did not use the service. I can confirm her initial requests have been completed.

Switching to USB Payment Processing has made my business better. The helpful and knowledge staff have given me guidelines and training on how to decrease processing rates, pci fees and how to save money in more ways than just lower rates. They have helped me market my business for free and save on business services! My business network has brought me new customers with my business listing and saved my family money with free local printable coupons! Can you believe this is a credit card processing company? I recommend USB to any business that takes credit cards as a form of payment. They are Smart in what they do!

  • Geoff Mirkin

I’ve been working USB for over three years and very satisfied with the service they provide. When they first contacted us we agreed to meet with them based on the fact that I felt we were paying to much in fees. Well my assumptions were correct. They save us a ton of money every month and the rep (I cant remember his name) was professional and knowledgable. The few times we’ve had issues we call them and they are right on top of it. Being in the Solar industry we have a high ticket item so if a 20-30K transaction doesn’t go in or funded right away, it’s an issue to our cash flow. These guys seem to understand that and I like the fact that when I call I actually speak to a person that’s 20 miles away, not some person in Taiwan or an automated service that takes 30 minutes of BS before you might be able to get someone on the phone and that person is in a different time zone. Those were the big issues with the last CC company I worked with. Local is the most important thing for me even more than the $$ saved. Id highly recommend these guys
