Evolv Customer Support Options

It is worth noting that because Evolv is partnered with WorldPay, some complaints intended for Evolv might get redirected to the online profiles of the larger company. The Evolv website lists dedicated phone numbers and email addresses for customer support, but it’s unclear whether these support channels lead to Evolv or to WorldPay. Regardless, these channels are lacking when compared to payment processors with great customer service reputations.

Online Ratings Summary

BBB Reports 1

What Merchants Say

The company’s profile also features 1 informal review. The 1 review is positive. A former review was negative and detailed unexpected charges and poor customer service:

Nightmare, Small Businesses Beware. A rep from this company came into my retail store and said that they could save my a lot on Credit Card Processing. Their rep asked to see my former statements and worked at his laptop and said, “oh yes, we can save you a lot!” He spewed how they were local, from a few counties away here in Kentucky and he would be close to handle everything I needed. I asked about using my current machine, a VX520, which I purchased for $300 from my current processor and was told that it had proprietary software and I couldn’t use it. (turned out to be a lie) I asked Matt L******* what there machine would cost and could never pin him down. When I asked, about $300? He said he wasn’t sure but around that and I would save that in no time with his company. That was mid Nov. 2018. After Christmas break, I was shocked to see all these charges coming out of my bank account including one for $100.70 from a company called Ascentium Capital Leasing. I called Matt’s boss on Jan 4,2019 and was told that is the company I was leasing my new equipment from for 48 MONTHS. WHAT?? Never heard of them but he assured me he would have Matt call me the next day. Never and still haven’t heard from him. Called the main company in Indiana and was told they would have Matt call me. Of course he never has. I requested by email to be Cancelled on Jan. 28,2019 and again in Feb. I have finally received a cancellation request form and it states that I will owe a $500 or greater early termination Fee and Ascentium Capital emailed me this today: This contract is a 48 month none cancellable lease agreement it can’t be cancelled yes you can return the equipment But you will have a outstanding balance you personally guaranteed this contract it’s not just going to go away if you like I can try to help you with a Settlement your balance is 4,532 I can try to settle for 2,800 please let me know if this is something you want to do. They still won’t give me an address to return their VX520 machine. Approval Payment Solutions should be ashamed of how I have been treated and for their rep conning a small business owner. I guess I will just have my credit score drop as I will never pay either company. BEWARE

In this case, the client could have benefited from knowing which undesirable contract terms to be on the lookout for.

An “A” Rating Overall

Evolv/Approval Payment Solutions has seen a dramatic decrease in its complaints over our past few updates. In that time the company’s complaint total has fallen to 0 so we are willing to agree with the BBB’s “A+” rating at this time.

Evolv Fees, Rates & Costs

A Closer Look at The Contract

Key Points

Cancellation Penalties Yes
Monthly & Annual Fees Likely
Processing Rates 1.00% - 4.99%
Equipment Leasing Yes

Evolv Contract Terms

Evolv appears to offer a three-year agreement through WorldPay with automatic renewal for two-year terms. The exact Evolv rates under that agreement are not disclosed by the company. There is also an undisclosed early termination fee associated with Approval Payment Solutions contracts, although this amount is likely to be close to the standard $250-$295 amount offered by WorldPay. We are currently unable to locate any mention of PCI Compliance fees or monthly minimum fees, but it is likely that these are included in the company’s contract as well. According to the Better Business Bureau, the company also appears to lock its credit card terminals to prevent “slamming,” which can lead to some frustration among merchants who don’t understand why their terminal is locked.

Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway Pricing

In addition to its storefront payment processing services, Evolv also dedicates a portion of its website to advertising its virtual terminal and payment gateway services, through Anchorpoint. However, pricing is not disclosed on either of those services. Additional Evolv rates and fees, including gateway fees, technical support fees, batch fees, and additional transaction rates typically apply to these e-commerce services.

Industry-Standard Pricing

One client complaint in the comment section of this review cites a $375 early termination fee, while a more recent complaint claims that this fee is actually $500. An Evolv complaint on another review website mentions a long-term equipment lease. Overall, the company’s contract terms appear to be squarely within the average industry parameters, and we would not expect its pricing to be competitive with the cheapest merchant accounts.

We also encourage business owners to check out our list of the providers of the best merchant accounts.

Evolv Employee Reviews & Sales Tacitcs

Should You Work For Them?

Key Points

Uses Independent Resellers Yes
Telemarketing Likely
Misleading Marketing No
Discloses All Important Terms No

Inside and Outside Sales Staff

Evolv appears to utilize strategic partnerships, an in-house sales team, and independent sales agents to market its services. The use of independent sales agents can often result in an elevated complaint rate for a company, as these sales representatives are usually motivated to sign merchants up for the most expensive contract terms possible. We have seen a few such Evolv reviews.

This compares favorably to our list of best credit card processors.

Sales Complaints

We are currently able to locate a few Evolv/Approval Payment Solutions complaints that describe aggressive sales tactics and nondisclosure of contract terms. To its credit, the company does not appear to engage in deceptive advertising strategies in its official materials. If you suspect that Evolv is charging you undisclosed fees, we recommend seeking an independent statement audit to find and eliminate hidden costs.

Our Evolv Review Summary

Our Final Thoughts

Evolv rates as an average credit card processing provider according to our rating system. The company’s overall rating is negatively affected by its apparent contract terms, while its low complaint volume on this and other consumer protection websites helped to raise its overall score. Businesses are encouraged to read their contract terms carefully and to compare the company’s pricing to the top-rated overall merchant account providers.

I have been a customer for over 20 years and have retired and am closing my business. I called and let the company know to close my account. They made me request the closure by email. Some days later I received a bill for early termination (They sent out a notice Revised Terms and Conditions in 2021). The bill was for more 13 months of service!

Contractually, in the fine print in the attached document, there it is. Was the bill legal, yes, and I will have to pay. Was it moral or just or fair, NO.

My recommendation is to find a company who will not try to hide their extra fees, and who are upfront with their charges. I think Evolv/Orion’s way of doing business is shady and unprofessional.

They are not good. They sneak in a lot of fees, they add in fees every month and blame them on mastercard/visa/etc. They require you do a “PCI REVIEW” that you have to manually do in multistep process every 3 months. then they still bill you HUNDREDS and promise to refund it because it was a mistake but never actually do. VERY SHADY COMPANY!!

  • Worst company I have ever dealt with.

Processing fees a bit high, but I can live with that.

But the representative never produced a contract for me to look at. He made many promises about rebates of fees, not a single one of which was ever done. Charges $90/month for four years on a no-cancel contract for a machine you can buy brand new for $499. Said the processing fees on purchases would offset much or all the cost of the machine and would be rebated to me at the end of the year. When I retired, I still have to pay. And to this day I have never seen a dime of the promised rebates, nor even a thank you card for the gouging.

RUN! Anyone else doing processing is probably better than these people.

Worst company to deal with! Been with them 12 years. Never can talk to a person. Have tried several times to cancel, always says my contract has not expired. I signed a 2 yr contract in the beginning. Self renewal contract every 2 years or 3 years..nobody knows! Fees have never been what they promised. Impossible to get out of contract!

I signed up with Approval Payment Solution 6 months ago and not only did they reduce my rates considerably but the answer the phone. Thanks APS

I operate a small nonprofit organization which used Approval Payment Solutions for more than 4 years. We did not realize that buried in the fine print of their contract is an automatic renewal for 2 years at a time subject to a cancellation fee. When we switched our services this spring to a more affordable company, Approval Payment Solutions took a $375 fee out of our bank account for early cancellation. Well shame on us for not reading the contract more carefully or remembering terms buried in fine print that we signed off on four years ago. But shame on them for engaging in a practice which is sneaky at best. We felt totally ripped off. We did business with this company for four years and they made a good profit off of us. I would not use them again and I would not recommend them to others. I realize that this is a practice that lots of companies are starting to use to lock you into contracts long term, but I consider it deceptive and a poor business practice.

    • They did this to us. I had to threaten them to get it anything done about. When I called down there they said i signed a contract but the first question. I asked Josh Douglas was that this is a month to month contract and he said YES but if I ever wanted out I had to have the equipment back in 30 days or else there would be a 800.00 charge so I said OK but they did the same way with me in the small print on the bill I was getting charged 120.00 s month rental free that they said was a free machine to use. Mr. Allan Noe is a conman

      This is a dishonest company.

They brief their sales people one pitch, and when you sign-on to the service, they do a classic bait and switch. I signed on a few months back, they have not actually begun managing my accounts, and when I tried to cancel, they told me there is a 500$ cancellation fee, when a HUGE part to me moving to this company was that there was NO cancellation fee.

“Did you read the fine print?”

Obviously not as well as I should have. This is a dishonest company, I would not recommend working for them.

    • I totally am on the same page as David Foster (2014 post) and Ron Brewer (Dec2017 post)
APS is very sneaky. As for customer service, terrible when it comes to the waiting for someone to come fix/replace/figure out what’s wrong with the terminal we have at our customer window. Reason we went with them was b/c the girl who came to talk to us was super nice and would stop in to help us when we needed her (no longer there) and now we are told they no longer have reps who actually come to the office to help you. WTH?!? So it’s like oh well you’re on ur own. Will NEVER suggest anyone to use them.
