Founded in 1999, Nochex is a merchant account provider the specializes in serving e-commerce businesses in the UK and Europe. The company does not provide in-store products for face-to-face payments, so the only way that it can serve brick-and-mortar businesses is as an add-on service for e-commerce. Their online processing services include payment gateways, invoicing and subscriptions, MOTO, MPOS, and payments for competitions, charities, and fundraisers.
Nochex offers a versatile payment processing solution that allows businesses to accept credit and debit card payments from customers around the world. By providing a secure and efficient way to process payments, Nochex helps businesses to increase their reach and improve the overall customer experience.
Security is a top priority for Nochex, which is why they have implemented advanced fraud prevention measures to protect both businesses and their customers. By utilizing sophisticated technology and monitoring tools, Nochex ensures that transactions are secure and reduces the risk of fraudulent activity.
Nochex’s platform can be easily integrated with most popular online shopping cart systems, making it a seamless experience for businesses to set up and manage their online stores. This integration enables businesses to offer a smooth and consistent checkout process for their customers, improving the overall shopping experience.
To cater to international customers, Nochex offers a currency conversion feature that allows businesses to accept payments in multiple currencies. This feature makes it easier for businesses to expand their reach and tap into global markets.
Nochex also provides the option for businesses to accept payments over the phone through their virtual terminal. This service allows businesses to process transactions for customers who may not have access to the internet or prefer to make payments via phone.
Nochex takes pride in offering excellent customer support, assisting businesses with any questions or issues that may arise while using their services. With a dedicated team of experts, Nochex ensures that businesses have the necessary support to maintain a seamless payment processing experience.
Nochex does not list an acquiring bank on its website, and there are no third-party sources that indicate which banks it may be partnered with. Since it was originally founded as a UK-based alternative to PayPal, it may have established its own independent payment processing protocols much like PayPal. Martin Greenbank is listed as the CEO of Nochex, which is headquartered at Leeds Innovation Centre, 103 Clarendon Rd, Leeds, LS2 9DF, UK, though its website and other sources list Nochex Ltd, Customer Services, Cornelius House, Gelderd Close, LS12 6DS as one of its addresses. Nochex is the parent company of Axcess Merchant Services.

Total Online Complaints | 100+ |
Live Customer Support | Yes |
Most Common Complaint | Fund Holds |
Recent Lawsuits | No |
We are currently able to locate more than 100 negative Nochex reviews, several of which accuse the company of being a scam or a ripoff. Common complaints include fund-holds, poor customer service, unauthorized account withdrawals, and difficulty using and integrating the company’s products. The majority of complaints against the company have been filed by consumers who purchased fraudulent products from a business using Nochex, but these have not factored heavily into our review because they do not reflect the client experience. Even so, the available client complaints about poor customer service and fund holds have lowered the company’s score in this section. The credit card processor has responded to several complaints filed against it, and these responses vary in terms of tone, ranging from appropriate to verging on unprofessional.
We have not found any outstanding class-action lawsuits or FTC complaints filed against Nochex. Dissatisfied merchants who wish to pursue a non-litigious course of action against the company should consider reporting it to the relevant supervisory organizations.
Nochex provides phone and email support to all of its users but does not rate as a top merchant account provider for great customer service.
The Better Business Bureau does not maintain a profile for Nochex at this time. We therefore will not factor a BBB rating into this review.

Monthly & Annual Fees | Yes |

Nochex offers three distinct rates: an invoice rate, a telephone payment rate, and a charity donation rate. Merchant accounts charge a one-time setup fee of £50, chargeback fees of £30 (when chargebacks exceeding 1% of all monthly transactions), and a per-transaction fee of 2.9% plus 0.20£ for invoice payments. Telephone payments are assessed at a rate of 3.2% plus 0.20£ plus a £10 monthly fee. Nochex also supports charity donations, charging an exclusive rate of 1.4% plus 0.10£.
Merchant accounts may also be charged a £500 administrative charge for account closures. Nochex reserves the right to close merchant accounts that they deem to be committing fraudulent transactions or illegal activity. Personal accounts charge also charge 2.9% plus 0.20£ per transaction but do not include a setup fee. Both account types are pay-as-you-go and do not include any monthly fees, annual fees, or early termination fees. Both account types also include access to all of Nochex’s other business services. Nochex’s pricing is more competitive than traditional merchant accounts for brick-and-mortar retailers, but about average for online-only payment processors.
In addition to its storefront payment processing services, NoChex also dedicates a portion of its website to advertising its virtual terminal and payment gateway services. However, pricing is not disclosed on either of those services. Additional rates and fees, including gateway fees, technical support fees, batch fees, and additional transaction rates typically apply to these e-commerce services.
While clients generally praise Nochex for its low costs, a significant number of reviewers have complained about Nochex’s habit of placing transaction limits or rolling reserves on clients’ accounts. In most cases, this is a precautionary measure designed to mitigate the company’s exposure to high-risk merchants. However, it appears to have caught enough business owners off-guard so as to be worth considering if your business type is nonstandard or high-risk. Generally speaking, Nochex’s contract terms are low-cost and low-commitment, but businesses report varying levels of satisfaction with the product.
Key Points |
|
---|---|
Uses Independent Resellers | No |
Telemarketing | No |
Misleading Marketing | No |
Discloses All Important Terms | Yes |
Nochex appears to rely on traditional advertising and an in-house sales team to market its services. There is no evidence that the company employs independent sales agents, and we haven’t found any Nochex reviews that describe deceptive tactics by the company’s sales team. This compares favorably to our list of best credit card processors.
Nochex advertises a partnership with Uk based e-commerce auction house Bumblebee Auctions on its website. Using the auction house requires the set up of a personal account with Nochex to facilitate transactions. Nochex charges up to 3£ to verify their Bumblebee Auctions account.
A few complainants have mentioned that Nochex withdrew money to verify their accounts and never returned it, but it’s possible that this was simply Nochex’s clearly disclosed setup fee. Nochex lists this setup fee and its per-transaction fee on its website, and there are no complaints that suggest that these fees are misleading. Overall, Nochex doesn’t appear to suffer from any serious issues with its sales approach. However, if you suspect that Nochex is charging you undisclosed fees, we recommend seeking a third-party statement audit to find and eliminate hidden charges.
Nochex rates as a reliable e-commerce credit card processing provider according to our rating criteria. The company has received a low-to-moderate number of complaints for its size and time in business, but its pricing and contract terms are low-cost and low-risk for clients. Nochex, while not a top-rated UK merchant account provider, is best suited for small and midsize e-commerce providers who are looking to accept payments via their websites.

Total scam. I paid for the Dartford Crossing with them and it did not get passed on to the Gov. department, so I received a penalty notice, which I am still trying to sort out and get a refund.
don’t use them.

I have contacted NoChex several times, as well as the business from which I made my purchase, with no resolution.
Don’t even try to get a refund from them, it will not happen. There is no way a legitimate business will use NoChex.
If you associate your company with NoChex, your reputation will suffer.
Anyone who makes a good statement about them probably is as shady as they are.

PLEASE AVOID paying through Nochex, there is no buyer protection.
I mistakenly order IMIE unlock from a site through Nochex, they failed to unlock my phone, and didnt refund me.
When I contact the Nochex Customer Support, they end up with the message below which is so disappointing.
“we cannot supersede the merchants decision.
We cannot assist you further in regards to the matter
“

Absolutely a waste of time, do not know what they are doing. Actually why would you even use Nochex when there are far better companies to take card payments.

NOchex is a SCAM. I paid for something that never got the service for. and after the fact, when I had an email confirming they would pay me back if I withdrew the dispute in my bank for that payment, they are writing to me in very bad manners that they won’t pay me a penny, regardless of the email I had received where they said they would. Never NEVER trust this unprofessional website where they just want your money and don’t care about customer service (don’t really think they know what customer service is).

We had account with them for around 10 years, normally we have used Nochex payment gateway as alternative method of payment (additional payment option for customers) and that particular business became less active. A couple days ago tried to access account and discovered that they did temporary suspended our account for inactivity. Ok, thought to open a ticket to investigate the issue as we never ever received anything in communication about it.
Via ticket found out the following:
– they did temporary suspended our account for inactivity;
– they did emptied account due to inactivity as we had some money left;
We have never had any notification or any update of terms and conditions!
Without any notification they did temporary suspended our account? Without any notification emptied account? How it’s possible if this guys are regulated by FCA in UK? If they do regulated by FCA how fair is it?
My recommendation is beware of Nochex scam company!

Be very careful before using this company. They have taken over €2000 of our customers money and refuse to release it, give any reason why they will not release it, give any timescale as to when, if ever they will release it. Read on-line reviews. Not to be trusted

Complete fraudulent company.Never supports for customer. Stay away this site.

Nochex claims to be the go-to company for small businesses wanting to take card payments don’t ring true in my experience. As an electrician who wanted to give clients an alternative way to pay invoices, and dissatisfied with PayPal who I had trialled, I turned to Nochex who seemed to have all the reassuring answers on their website. They charged a £50 setup fee and getting the website integration in place was easy, but then they kept changing their mind about how much had to be retained in the account, and after just four transactions in as many weeks they closed the account without notice nor refund because they claimed ‘business model wasn’t suited’. My business model is that I provide a service and then bill my customer who, hopefully, pays up. As far as business models go, it’s pretty straightforward. I now use WorldPay who give me no trouble at all, have no setup fee and charge less to process transactions. Steer clear of Nochex unless you want to risk being fifty quid lighter. A full blog article on the debacle is posted on my website for anyone wishing to research them further.
