Acquisition by Payment Data Systems

Singular Payments is a San Antonio, Texas-based merchant account provider that was founded in 2009. In September 2017, the company was acquired by Payment Data Systems, and it appears that Singular Payments is now a DBA of Payment Data Systems. According to the company, it uses CardConnect, a subsidiary of First Data, for its back end processing. The company’s personnel and operations have been largely absorbed into the Payment Data Systems organization, but Singular Payments remains an independent brand.

Location and Ownership

Under Payment Data Systems, Singular Payments is a registered ISO/MSP of Central Bank of St. Louis, Clayton, Missouri. The company website lists headquarters at 3611 Paesanos Pkwy Ste 300, San Antonio, Texas and a newly opened location at 4037 Rural Plains Cir. Suite 230, Franklin, Tennessee. Charles Yancey is the president at Singular Payments.

Singular Payments Pricing

Singularity payments determines its flat rate based upon the processing volume, business type, and which types of cards businesses process. According to their website’s FAQs page, businesses that primarily complete transactions with debit cards tend to have lower rates than businesses who accept debit, credit, and gift cards.

The company offers a three-year contract with no early termination fee, a monthly PCI compliance fee of $99, a fixed per-transaction fee customized for each merchant, no statement fees, and no batch fees. Though there is no early termination fee listed, the company does state it charges a one-time “deconversion fee” if service is cancelled prior to the end of the contract. However, the company notes that the fee can be waived in the event of the sale of a business. It’s possible that the company charges other fees that it has elected not to mention on its website, but we cannot find any merchant complaints that cite excessive fees or unexpected costs.

Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway Pricing

In addition to its storefront payment processing services, Singular Payments also dedicates a portion of its website that advertises its virtual terminal and payment gateway services. However, pricing on either of those services is not disclosed. Additional rates and fees, including gateway fees, technical support fees, batch fees, and additional transaction rates typically apply to these e-commerce services.

Competitive Contract Terms

Singular Payments’s advertised contract terms and pricing are very competitive compared to industry averages, so we will assign the company an “A” grade in this category until we receive feedback that disputes the company’s promotional materials. For now, merchants are still encouraged to compare Singular Payments’ rates with those of the cheapest merchant account providers.
