Singular Payments Overview
Acquisition by Payment Data Systems
Singular Payments is a San Antonio, Texas-based merchant account provider that was founded in 2009. In September 2017, the company was acquired by Payment Data Systems, and it appears that Singular Payments is now a DBA of Payment Data Systems. According to the company, it uses CardConnect, a subsidiary of First Data (now Fiserv), for its backend processing. The company’s personnel and operations have been largely absorbed into the Payment Data Systems organization, but Singular Payments remains an independent brand.

Customer Reviews & Sentiment
Clean Complaint Record
As noted above, we are unable to find any negative Singular Payments reviews, and there is no indication that the company is a ripoff or a scam. Singular Payments has been an active brand since 2009, so its clean complaint record throughout its decade in operation is remarkable. It is possible that some complaints intended for Singular Payments have instead been filed against its backend processor, but we cannot find any evidence that this is occurring.
Singular Payments Lawsuits
We have not found any outstanding class-action lawsuits or FTC complaints filed against Singular Payments. Dissatisfied merchants who wish to pursue a non-litigious course of action against the company should consider reporting it to the relevant supervisory organizations.
Customer Customer Service Options
Singular Payments provides a contact form and a phone number on its website, and these channels appear to be efficient at handling customer issues before they reach public forums. We will award Singular Payments an “A” rating in this category, but the company’s customer support options do not qualify it as a top-rated customer service payment processor.

No BBB Complaints
Singular Payments has an “A+” rating with the Better Business Bureau and had previously been accredited since 2012. Singular Payments has not received any BBB complaints in the past 3 years. It also has not received any informal reviews, although it should be noted that these reviews are not subject to verification by the BBB.
An “A” Performance Overall
Given Singular Payments’ previously clean complaint record, we agree with the BBB’s rating of an “A”, but merchants should be aware that there is reason to be skeptical of the BBB’s information.
Card Processing Rates & Fees
Singular Payments Pricing
Singularity payments determines its flat rate based upon the processing volume, business type, and which types of cards businesses process. According to their website’s FAQs page, businesses that primarily complete transactions with debit cards tend to have lower rates than businesses that accept debit, credit, and gift cards.
The company offers a three-year contract with no early termination fee, a monthly PCI compliance fee of $99, a fixed per-transaction fee customized for each merchant, no statement fees, and no batch fees. Though there is no early termination fee listed, the company does state it charges a one-time “deconversion fee” if service is canceled prior to the end of the contract. However, the company notes that the fee can be waived in the event of the sale of a business. It’s possible that the company charges other fees that it has elected not to mention on its website, but we cannot find any merchant complaints that cite excessive fees or unexpected costs.
Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway Pricing
In addition to its storefront payment processing services, Singular Payments also dedicates a portion of its website that advertises its virtual terminal and payment gateway services. However, pricing on either of those services is not disclosed. Additional rates and fees, including gateway fees, technical support fees, batch fees, and additional transaction rates typically apply to these e-commerce services.
Competitive Contract Terms
Singular Payments’ advertised contract terms and pricing are very competitive compared to industry averages, so we will assign the company an “A” grade in this category until we receive feedback that disputes the company’s promotional materials. For now, merchants are still encouraged to compare Singular Payments’ rates with those of the cheapest merchant account providers.
Bottom Line
Solid Option for Most Businesses
Singular Payments rates as a reliable merchant services provider according to all available information. The company advertises competitive contract terms and has not received any public complaints as of this review. Even when dealing with an “A” rated provider, merchants are encouraged to read and review all contract terms and to compare its pricing to the top-rated overall credit card processors.
