Acquisition by Payment Data Systems

Singular Payments is a San Antonio, Texas-based merchant account provider that was founded in 2009. In September 2017, the company was acquired by Payment Data Systems, and it appears that Singular Payments is now a DBA of Payment Data Systems. According to the company, it uses CardConnect, a subsidiary of First Data (now Fiserv), for its backend processing. The company's personnel and operations have been largely absorbed into the Payment Data Systems organization, but Singular Payments remains an independent brand.

Singular Payments has been an active brand since 2009, so its clean complaint record throughout its decade in operation is remarkable. It is possible that some complaints intended for Singular Payments have instead been filed against its backend processor, but we cannot find any evidence that this is occurring.

Singular Payments Pricing

Singularity payments determines its flat rate based upon the processing volume, business type, and which types of cards businesses process. According to their website’s FAQs page, businesses that primarily complete transactions with debit cards tend to have lower rates than businesses that accept debit, credit, and gift cards.

The company offers a three-year contract with no early termination fee, a monthly PCI compliance fee of $99, a fixed per-transaction fee customized for each merchant, no statement fees, and no batch fees. Though there is no early termination fee listed, the company does state it charges a one-time “deconversion fee” if service is canceled prior to the end of the contract. However, the company notes that the fee can be waived in the event of the sale of a business. It’s possible that the company charges other fees that it has elected not to mention on its website, but we cannot find any merchant complaints that cite excessive fees or unexpected costs.

Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway Pricing

In addition to its storefront payment processing services, Singular Payments also dedicates a portion of its website that advertises its virtual terminal and payment gateway services. Singular Payments’ advertised contract terms and pricing are very competitive compared to industry averages, so we will assign the company an “A” grade in this category until we receive feedback that disputes the company’s promotional materials. Singular Payment appears to utilize strategic partnerships and an in-house sales team to market its services.
