8/1/2019 Update: As of this update, it has become apparent that North American Processing Solutions has been absorbed into the Velocity, LLC brand. The company’s website redirects visitors to Velocity’s. Merchant’s should defer to our review of Velocity, LLC as such. The review below reflects all data pertaining to North American Processing Solutions as of May 11, 2019. While this review will remain intact for reference purposes, it will no longer be updated.
A Processor With Many Aliases
Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, North American Processing Solutions is a merchant account provider that offers credit card processing services for most standard-risk business types. The company does not list a backend processor on its website, but we have found a great deal of evidence indicating that North American Processing Solutions is a DBA or subsidiary of Wholesale Merchant Processing. This evidence includes the following information:
- The Better Business Bureau lists Jason Warren as the president and CEO of North American Processing Solutions. The Better Business Bureau also lists Jason Warren as a member at Wholesale Merchant Processing, and Jason Warren’s LinkedIn profile lists him as the vice president of First Choice Payments, a DBA of Wholesale Merchant Processing.
- The Better Business Bureau states that North American Processing Solutions is a DBA of American Payment Systems, and it further states that Todd McCartney is the president of American Payment Systems. Todd McCartney is also the president of Wholesale Merchant Processing.
- The North American Processing Solutions website provides documentation that is branded with the American Payment Systems name and logo.
- American Payment Systems’s Nevada business registration lists Kimberly Chin as an officer of the company and gives Wholesale Merchant Processing’s Beaverton, Oregon, address as Kimberly Chin’s address.
- A commenter beneath our review of Payment Systems Corporation has stated that North American Processing Solutions is owned by the same company as Smart Choice Payments and First Choice Payments, both of which are DBAs of Wholesale Merchant Processing.
- Until the day of this review’s publication, the North American Processing Solutions website was nearly identical to the Smart Choice Payments website and featured nearly identical marketing copy.
North American Processing Solutions Location
Taken as a whole, these factors strongly suggest that North American Processing Solutions is yet another DBA of Wholesale Merchant Processing. However, North American Processing Solutions does appear to maintain an office in Texas and operate under the supervision of local management. The address for North American Processing Solutions’s Dallas location is 12225 Greenville Ave, Ste 430, Dallas, Texas 75243, while the other Wholesale Merchant Processing companies are headquartered at 11000 SW Stratus St., Ste. 150, Beaverton, Oregon 97008. There is also evidence that the company’s management has also launched a marketing-oriented brand called Velocity, LLC. North American Processing Solutions is a registered ISO of Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., Walnut Creek, California.

High Complaint Total
We are currently able to locate over 50 negative North American Processing Solutions reviews, some of which refer to the company as a scam. The vast majority of these complaints have been filed regarding persistent, aggressive sales calls from North American Processing Solutions representatives, but another handful describe misrepresentation of contract terms, an unprofessional work environment, and poor customer service. We have also found more than 50 complaints filed against Wholesale Merchant Processing, Smart Choice Payments, and First Choice Payments. Given the shared ownership between the two companies and the consistency across all complaints, we feel that these other negative reviews are at least partially applicable to North American Processing Solutions.
North American Processing Solutions Services Lawsuits
We have not found any outstanding class-action lawsuits or FTC complaints filed against North American Processing Solutions. Dissatisfied merchants who wish to pursue a non-litigious course of action against the company should consider reporting it to the relevant supervisory organizations.
North American Processing Solutions Customer Support Options
The company lists phone and email contact information on its website and appears to offer merchant support during normal business hours. However, the abundance of complaints precludes it from placement among our top-rated merchant accounts for customer service.

20 Complaints
North American Processing Solutions currently has a “D” rating with the Better Business Bureau and is not showing accreditation. The company has received 20 complaints in the past three years, with 12 related to product or service problems, 3 due to advertising or sales issues, and 5 having to do with a billing or collection dispute. The company has successfully resolved 3 complaints, while 17 complaints either were resolved to the dissatisfaction of the merchant or did not receive a final response from the merchant. One complaint received no response whatsoever from North American Processing Solutions, and two received a response but not a good faith effort toward resolution.
What Merchants Say
North American Processing Solutions has also received 2 positive informal reviews and 2 negative informal reviews to its BBB profile. The most recent review describes difficulty cancelling service:
they got me to sign paperwork under the premise that they would only charge me 0.5% for debit cards, and 1% for credit cards. after we signed up, we had problem after problem. we emailed to cancel and they did not respond. they just kept pushing to get the sale through and ignored my requests. i found out later (and they didn’t put this on any of the paperwork when i signed up) that the servicing company and the leasing company were D or F’s on the BBB. I tried to research whoeever was on the contract, but there was nothing anywhere about these companies they were selling me off to. they are the kind of company that harms others for money. it’s disgusting and sad and pathetic.
Merchants in this position may benefit from taking the steps to cancel their account without paying a fee.
A “D” Performance
Given the company’s complaint volume and resolution ratio, we agree with the BBB’s rating.

Contract Not Available
Unlike Wholesale Merchant Processing and Smart Choice Payments, North American Processing Solutions does not provide its contract terms on its website. However, merchant complaints suggest that the standard North American Processing Solutions contract is similar, if not identical, to the standard Smart Choice Payments contract.
Smart Choice Contract
The standard Smart Choice Payments contract (available below) is a three-year agreement with an early termination fee of $495, a monthly PCI compliance fee of $4.95, a monthly minimum fee of $25, a monthly statement fee of $10, and an accompanying non-cancellable, four-year equipment lease through Northern Leasing Systems. Not surprisingly, this equipment lease is by far the most commonly cited problem in merchant complaints. Northern Leasing Systems is notorious for offering four-year, non-cancellable equipment leases that ultimately cost thousands of dollars. Merchants are advised to buy their credit card terminals rather than lease, as most terminals can be purchased for under $500.
“D” Bordering on “F”
The company’s equipment lease agreements have lowered its score to a “D” in this category. If North American Processing Solutions does indeed offer the same contract terms as Wholesale Merchant Processing and Smart Choice Payments, then we feel it deserves an “F” rating. However, we cannot verify the contents of the standard North American Processing Solutions contract at this time. If you have any specific knowledge of the company’s pricing and fees, please share that information in the comment section below this review. See the Smart Choice Payments Merchant Application and the Smart Choice Payments Program Guide.

Distributed Sales Team
Like other companies with ties to Wholesale Merchant Processing, North American Processing Solutions appears to sell its products and services through a combination of telemarketing and independently contracted sales agents. We have found over 30 North American Processing Solutions complaints that describe incessant telemarketing calls, misrepresentation of the caller’s identity, and unprofessional behavior by appointment setters. There are also few merchant complaints that describe nondisclosure of contract terms by in-person sales reps, as well as some complaints from former employees claiming that the company intentionally rips off merchants. In general, these complaints mirror those filed against Wholesale Merchant Processing, Smart Choice Payments, and First Choice Payments.
Use of Multiple DBAs
As noted above, North American Processing Solutions presents itself as a Texas-based organization and does not mention any ties to Wholesale Merchant Processing, Smart Choice Payments, or First Choice Payments. The use of multiple simultaneous business names is common among providers that wish to spread complaints across multiple brands or to escape the negative reputation of an existing brand.
A Low-Rated Approach
Given its complaint volume and personnel overlap with Wholesale Merchant Processing, we have assigned North American Processing Solutions a “D” in this section. If you suspect that a North American Processing Solutions representative has misled you about your rates and fees, we recommend seeking a third-party statement audit.
North American Processing Solutions Review Summary
Our Final Thoughts and Opinions
A Low-Rated Option for All Businesses
North American Processing Solutions rates as a substandard merchant services provider according to our rating criteria. There is evidence to suggest that the company is simply a DBA of Wholesale Merchant Processing, but we have graded it as an independent entity for now. Our rating for North American Processing Solutions is subject to change once we have more concrete information about its contract terms, or once we receive clarification about its relationship to Wholesale Merchant Processing, Smart Choice Payments, and First Choice Payments. For now, merchants will be better served by top-rated merchant account providers.

These people are crooks! they send small notices about new charges in the mail and if you don’t happen to see them you are out of luck! Costs me $200.
I would advise you to stay away! auto renew another scam, you can only cancel on one certain date then it’s back to a 2 year contract and it takes over thousand dollars to cancel naps = crooks stay away!
Tried to to talk to customer service manager Rachel L would not budge, very rude! Not even a compromise. Bad business will be reporting them to BBB. Stay away!
Scammed Owner
This company is owned by Todd McCartney and Darrell Dirks, along with Smart Choice Payments (in Oregon), they also run another business called Velocity that does marketing services. The sales people and owners only care about their profits. They love screwing over us business owners and you can count on them trying to upsell you all kinds of things you don’t need. Their customer service and other back-end people are great but I would never recommend doing business with them, ever. It was very costly for me to cancel with them, plus a HUGE headache. Also, they never give you a copy of your contract. No wonder why they constantly have lawsuits being thrown at them (easy to look up on the web, btw).

This company is a total scam. Would not deposit my money into my checking account for three weeks. Was told every day that the money would be there tomorrow. I am a small business that was only three months old at the time and this really hurt my business. When these guys come into your place of business tell them to just turn back around. SCAM!!!!
911 Mobile Mechanic inc.
You better think twice before dealing with these people. Paul Paluszak came to us with big promises, and they have costed us thousands. They will tell you whatever you want to hear, but when you sign, nobody returns your calls, and it costs $1,300 to cancel with these people. They are not honest people, to trust with your customers credit card info.

On 08/25/2015 we set up an account with North American Processing Solutions. To this day 05/17/2016 we cannot except credit cards with them because of the contract that we signed was not honored. there were special provisions we had ask for that this company will not complete. They act like they want to correct the problem but there just tell me yes but set on their hands and do nothing.
We filed fraud charges against them on 10/28/2015 for the buyout agreement for the fact they would only pay for part of the buyout. Once the company Northern Leasing got involved with the complaint, North American Processing paid the full amount. The Biggest problem we had was when we were told that Northern Leasing and North American Processing were one in the same company. (Anchor was his name.) He is with North American Processing. The fact of the matter is they are not. This company is runs on the border line of criminal and need to be shut down. If there is any one out there that would like to file a file class action lawsuit against them I am on board. [REDACTED – personal contact information]. We are get ready to re-file the same along with another fraud case against them. We want out of our contract and all our moneys back we have spent. It has been almost a year now and still cant process with them.

North American Processing Services is a SCAM!!!!! One of their reps, a “Joe Quintana” told me I could obtaining a good rate on card processing for my online shopping cart IF I bought into their terminal, which he KNEW I had almost no potential use for in my business. I bought in. I was NEVER ABLE to set up ANY sort of online shopping cart through or with this company. Joe kept promising it would all be resolved before the CES (Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas) so I kept TRUSTING what he was saying, thinking “one more time” and it’ll be fixed. NEVER GOT FIXED. Ended up at the show, media coverage, millions of visitors to my website, and NO WAY TO ORDER OUR PRODUCT! Joe kept sending me to deal with other entities directly, “Dejavue” – “Secure.net” and “Authorize.net” in order to resolve the problem, but BECAUSE OF the fact we were coming to these entities THROUGH North American Processing, we were BLOCKED from having an online shopping cart that could work. On the last round with Joe, I demanded he explain to me WHAT North American’s relationship was with any of these other entities. He refused to answer my question, but continued to insist that I AGAIN contact Authorize.net, and that they would solve the problem FOR North American Processing.
Net net, I found out that authorize.net was entirely UNABLE to help us BECAUSE we are a customer of North American Processing, and that they ONLY way authorize.net COULD help us, is if we came to them WITHOUT any affiliation with North American Processing! So basically, once you attempt to set ANYTHING up with North American Processing, they will BLOCK YOU from being ABLE to set up any sort of online shopping cart on your website!
SCUM OF THE EARTH! North American Processing Solutions doesn’t actually PROVIDE any sort of “service” let alone and “solutions”, and they do not produce or supply terminals, either online or as an onsite terminal. They just ROB YOU, make promises they cannot keep, provide NO SUPPORT for the problems you would NOT even being having if not for them, and also actively BLOCK YOU from being ABLE to get any services up that you might actually need.
