A POS Solution With Multiple Processing Options

Founded in 2012, Talech is an iPad based POS provider that offers credit card processing software and hardware for merchants. Talech offers hardware solutions specifically catered to restaurants, retailers, and service industry merchants like salons and spas. Talech’s POS software can also be integrated with accounting platforms, including QuickBooks. The extent of those features varies between the company’s 3 different plans.

Moderate Complaint Total

We have been able to find over 20 negative reviews about Talech. None of these reviews accuse the company of being a scam or make any accusations of fraud. Many of the complaints are in relation to the POS system’s software. Merchant complaints address issues with the software’s reporting tools, system updates, and speed when working without a wifi connection. A few other complaints are in regard to the company’s pricing. hardware, and customer support. It should be noted that these complaints are drastically outweighed by positive reviews about the company’s performance.

Talech Lawsuits

We have not found any outstanding class-action lawsuits or FTC complaints filed against Talech. Dissatisfied merchants who wish to pursue a non-litigious course of action against the company should consider reporting it to the relevant supervisory organizations.

Talech Customer Support Support Options

Talech offers a myriad of support options to its merchants. The company provides a live chat feature from Monday to Friday between 8 am and 5 pm as well as a dedicated email address and phone number for support inquiries. This comprehensive level of support is in line with what the best merchant accounts for customer service offer.

An “A” Overall

Given the company’s relatively low complaint volume, clean legal history, and comprehensive support options,  Talech receives an “A” rating in this category.

Note: We have adjusted this company’s BBB rating according to our own standards. To better understand why we adjust BBB ratings, please see our Rating Criteria.

Just 1 Complaint

Talech is not accredited with the Better Business Bureau. As of this review, the company has a “C” rating with the BBB and has had only 1 complaint filed against it in the last 36 months. The sole complaint was left in regard to an advertising or sales issue but has gone unanswered by the company. Talech does not have any informal reviews on its BBB profile in addition to that 1 complaint.

A “B” Performance Overall

Though Talech nearly has a clean complaint record, the fact that the company has not addressed the sole complaint filed against it precludes it from having an “A” rating in this category. However, we disagree with the BBB’s “C” rating and have adjusted it to a “B” overall. Merchants should be aware that there are reasons to be skeptical of the BBB’s reviews.

A Choice Between 3 Different Plans

Talech provides merchants with 3 different options to use its services, its Starter, Standard, and Premium plans. Merchants can sign up for these plans on an annual basis or choose month-to-month contracts. Choosing the annual option will mean that a merchant is billed upfront for the year of service. Though the company does not impose an early termination fee, a merchant who cancels their plan before that year long term ends will not be refunded for its total cost.

The Starter Plan costs $528 a year and includes 1 device to manage 5 employees and track up to 100 items of inventory. The Standard plan costs $722 per year and supports an unlimited amount of devices that track an unlimited amount of products in inventory. Additional devices under this plan cost $420 each. The Premium Plan costs $1,068 annually and also supports an unlimited amount of devices tracking the same extent of inventory but includes a wider array of software options. Additional devices under the Premium Plan cost $528 per year.

Month-to-month billing options exist for those same plans and cover the same parameters. The Start Plan costs $49 each month. The Standard Plan costs $69 per month for the first device and another $39 for every additional device. Lastly, the Premium Plan costs $99 per month for the first device and $49 per month for each additional device.

Additional Costs for Merchant Accounts

While Talech provides a wide array of solutions through its software and hardware options, the company does not payment processing services to merchants. According to its website, the company’s software is support by merchant accounts through Elavon, USAePay, Vantiv, Bank of America Merchants Services, Chase Merchant Services, Global Payments, and more. Additional rates and fees will likely be included in those merchant agreements.

Talech Sales Tactics

According to the company’s website, Talech’s POS software is hosted exclusively on the iPad. That means merchants must purchase a compatible iPad through Apple in order to use its services. The Talech website lists the iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, 2017 iPad, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3, and iPad Mini 4 as hardware capable of hosting its POS software.

Merchant’s equipped with these devices can purchase additional hardware through the company, ranging from smart terminals, EMV readers, iPad stands, receipt printers, kitchen printers, cash drawers, barcode scanners, and scales.

The company’s website does not list an affiliate program. This means that it is unlikely that Talech employs independent resellers of its services. The company has little criticism about its in-house sales team as well.

No Misleading Pricing

To its credit, Talech does not list deceptive prices. The company’s website has a pricing page that meticulously details the cost of its services in both annual and monthly pricing terms. That pricing page conveys the impact purchasing additional terminals will have on the cost of its services as well.

Talech’s policy of selling hardware directly to merchants instead of solely operating through merchant account providers is a definite plus. As is the fact that the company does not appear to employ independent resellers of its services.
