About ProMerchant
ProMerchant is a Boston-based merchant account provider that offers credit card processing for most standard-risk business types. The company is owned and operated by former managers of Flagship Merchant Services, but a company representative has stated that ProMerchant does not have any current relationships or plans to start a relationship with Flagship, iPayment, or Paysafe. One ProMerchant executive also founded a payment processor called Ascension Payments, but that brand appears to have been shuttered in favor of ProMerchant.
In August 2021, food ordering company Waitr acquired ProMerchant along with Flow Payments and Cape Cod Merchant Services.
ProMerchant processes all major debit and credit cards for standard and high-risk businesses.
POS Solutions
Point of Sale (POS) solutions are for businesses that handle in-person transactions. These systems provide a comprehensive platform for processing payments, managing inventory, and tracking sales data in real-time. Modern POS solutions are designed to be versatile, supporting various payment methods including credit cards, debit cards, and mobile payments.
EMV Card Readers and Swipers
EMV card readers and swipers are for businesses looking to ensure secure and efficient payment processing. These devices read the chip embedded in EMV cards, offering a higher level of security compared to traditional magnetic stripe readers.
Mobile Solutions
Mobile solutions are increasingly important for businesses that want to offer flexibility and convenience to their customers. These solutions enable merchants to accept payments using smartphones or tablets, making it possible to conduct transactions on the go.
Virtual Terminals
Virtual terminals provide businesses with a flexible way to process payments remotely, without the need for physical interaction with a customer’s card. These online platforms allow merchants to accept payments over the phone, via email, or through online forms.
Authorize.Net Payment Gateway
The Authorize.Net payment gateway is a trusted solution for businesses looking to process online payments securely and efficiently. As a leading payment gateway provider, Authorize.Net offers a platform that supports various payment methods, including credit cards, e-checks, and digital wallets. The gateway ensures that transactions are processed quickly and securely, with built-in fraud detection tools to protect both businesses and customers.
MOTO Payments
MOTO (Mail Order/Telephone Order) payments are an option for businesses that process transactions without the customer being physically present. This method allows merchants to accept credit card payments over the phone or through mail orders, making it ideal for industries such as catalog sales or remote services.
Shopping Carts
Shopping carts are a fundamental component of e-commerce platforms, enabling customers to select and purchase products online with ease. A well-designed shopping cart system allows customers to add items, review their selections, and proceed to checkout seamlessly.

We encourage you to share your personal experiences with ProMerchant in the comment section below, contributing to a broader understanding of their service quality.
ProMerchant Legal Status
In our investigation, we have not uncovered any outstanding class-action lawsuits or FTC complaints against ProMerchant. For merchants with unresolved grievances, a non-litigious resolution is recommended, such as reporting the issue to appropriate regulatory agencies.

Excellent customer service is a benchmark of a top merchant account provider. Merchants should review their options for high-quality customer service.

Month-to-Month Contract
ProMerchant offers a flexible month-to-month contract to its clients, providing a choice between interchange-plus pricing and membership-style pricing. For its interchange-plus pricing model, the company typically applies a rate of interchange plus 0.50% and $0.15 for each transaction. The membership-style pricing involves a fixed monthly fee, with transactions processed at the interchange rate without additional markup. Details regarding monthly minimum fees or PCI compliance fees are not explicitly mentioned by ProMerchant, which emphasizes its commitment to not imposing early termination fees, favoring month-to-month agreements instead.
Regarding equipment, ProMerchant clarifies that it does not engage in leasing processing equipment or selling it for profit, aligning with its straightforward pricing approach.
Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway Pricing
ProMerchant also promotes its virtual terminal and payment gateway solutions, notably through a partnership with Authorize.Net. While standard terms through Authorize.Net may include a transaction fee of 2.90% plus $0.30, along with a monthly gateway fee of $25 and a batch fee of $0.10, ProMerchant may adjust these terms as a reseller to fit the specific needs of its clients.
No Merchant Complaints
Despite ProMerchant’s interchange-plus rates being relatively higher than some competitors, the absence of public complaints regarding its pricing indicates a level of satisfaction among its users. Merchants are encouraged to compare ProMerchant’s offerings with other available options to ensure they are receiving the best possible rates and terms. For those interested in exploring further, our selection of the best merchant accounts may provide additional competitive options. No Evidence of Independent Agents
ProMerchant appears to market its services with a combination of an in-house sales team and online affiliate marketing. A company representative has confirmed that all of its agents operate out of a single office with direct supervision from managers. Moreover, we cannot find any ProMerchant reviews that would be indicative of a large independent sales operation. This compares favorably to our list ofbest credit card processors. If you suspect that you are being charged hidden ProMerchant fees, we recommend obtaining a third-party statement audit to find and eliminate excessive charges.
Previous ProMerchant Rate Quotes
At the time of our previous update, ProMerchant maintained a partnership with CreditCardProcessing.net, an affiliate marketing website that offers favorable placement based on ad purchases by processors. This strategy is also used by Flagship Merchant Services. ProMerchant’s profile on CreditCardProcessing.net advertised a rate of interchange plus 0.50% plus $0.15 per transaction. Interchange-plus is the most transparent pricing model available, and there was no evidence that ProMerchant listed this quote deceptively. A company representative has since stated that ProMerchant no longer advertises on CreditCardProcessing.net.
Our ProMerchant Review Summary
Our Final Thoughts
ProMerchant earns its reputation as a reliable merchant services provider largely by default, primarily due to the limited amount of merchant feedback currently available. The company’s advertised pricing appears promising and could offer competitive rates, yet its Flagship affiliation warrants caution. Given this association, we believe it prudent to wait for more comprehensive merchant reports before making a definitive assessment. We will closely monitor emerging merchant feedback to refine our evaluation of ProMerchant’s services.
In the meantime, merchants would likely benefit from opting for a top-rated merchant account provider, where the volume of customer feedback provides a clearer picture of the provider’s strengths and challenges. By making such a comparison, business owners can confidently select a provider that aligns with their specific requirements and expectations, reducing the likelihood of encountering unforeseen complications.
Hi are you able to get someone on the phone? I’m trying to call them for the 2 days the only thing I get is a voicemail. I sent them email but no one answered back. Are they still on business?

Very upset with this company. I had a deposit for over $300 on 4/30. All were approved and matched, yet one person used a foreign card which we did not know, nor expected an issue. – so they deposited one order for $25.25 to my bank account, and held all the rest totaling $329.89. No idea why. After two phone calls were told the money would be released back to my account. After 5 days still not deposit. The salesperson who sold me this system went out on a medical issue right after I signed up and I was charged $47.70 for not using their equipment once it was shipped to us due to needing wiring to make it work. Was also told this would be refunded – after 2 months still not refunded. Now here I sit trying again to get the salesperson who apparently is back to work to call me. Today is the second phone call I left. I don’t think saving a few dollars is worth the aggravation that I have been experiencing. At this stage, I would not recommend this company.
We are a small Mom & Pop operation and cannot afford this delay in funds. Now I am afraid to process any card as we never know where they are from even when we ship a product to a US address. So we are stuck if someone else uses an overseas card. Yet the week before we had two overseas orders and both went through with no issue and we were paid timely.

Do not use this company. They finally got me setup but now I can’t get an answer to my phone calls or emails. They took $32.06 from my bank account for no reason. Very frustrating. I had to put a stop payment on my bank account so they can’t pull any more money out.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THE COMPANY. I called last week to perhaps use their service. The rep I spoke so Sheena told me she would have an approval for me within 24 hours. The next day they emailed and asked for more information that was fine no problem. I have now emailed this person twice and called twice to see what was happening and to ask why I had not even had the decency and courtesy of a response yes or no. VERY VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I NOW IF THEY DID APPROVE US WOULD NOT USE THEIR SERVIE. TOO MANY OTHER GOOD ONES OUT THERE

I am dissapointed with my ProMerchant.
From promising me on two occasions to be able to use their services to two hard inquiries on my credit without an explanation as to why I was denied, ending with a quick goodbye like this is just another lead is dissapointing.
I am disgusted with how they conducted themselves.
Horrible!

Just signed up with ProMerchant and immediately requested they cancel my account. I asked a simple and basic question which caused them to put a hold on my account. I have had no problems with transactions for the past 10+ years and I did not ask for anything out of the ordinary. This made no sense to me that a customer can’t ask a basic question. I actually didn’t ask them to DO ANYTHING. I just wanted an understanding. Instead of answering the question they shut me down. We will see if their no contract no penalty policy works.

After a 72 month lease with Prestige processing with excessive fees and lease for the equipment = $3578. I have finally found a good processing firm- Pro Merchant- month to month contract- no cancellation fees, no leasing on their equipment. No hidden fees. $7.95 a month plus a per transaction fee and various low rates between the different credit cards. I am very happy since April 2019…Been a good switch! Their customer service is quick Usually within the hour if not sooner after contact..and my representative is Alex, and talks me through every thing to be sure I understand…
