Company Overview

Founded in 2002, Canmor Merchant Services is an Ontario-based merchant account provider that provides credit card processing solutions for businesses throughout Canada. Canmor appears to utilize Elavon as a backend processor and Ingenico as well as Everlink as its payment gateway providers. Canmor also appears to be a reseller of Poynt and Converge POS solutions.

Canmor Merchant Services Point of Sale

Canmor Merchant Services provides merchants with point-of-sale solutions including countertop terminals, wireless terminals, virtual terminals, smartphone payments, e-commerce solutions, and Talech complete store systems. Most Canmor POS solutions utilize POYNT Smart terminal tech, which integrates with QuickBooks, but Igenico swiping terminals and Hyosung ATMs are also available through the company.

Location & Ownership

The company is also a registered ISO/MSP of Evalon and Canadian branch of U.S. Bank National. Canmor lists its address as 851 County Rd 64, Brighton, Ontario, K0K 1H0. Theresa Richter is listed as the president of Canmor Merchant Services.

Canmor Merchant Services Reviews and Complaints

Here's What Their Clients Say

No Public Complaints

We are unable to locate any negative Canmor Merchant Services reviews, so it is unlikely that the company is a ripoff or a scam. It is unclear how many accounts the company currently maintains, so it could be that it simply hasn’t grown enough to attract many online complaints. Alternatively, some Canmor complaints might instead be filed against its backend processor Elavon. If you have your own Canmor Merchant Services review to make, please do so in the comments below.

Canmor Merchant Services Lawsuits and Fines

We have not found any outstanding class-action lawsuits or FTC complaints filed against Canmor Merchant Services. Dissatisfied merchants who wish to pursue a non-litigious course of action against the company should consider reporting it to the relevant supervisory organizations.

Canmor Merchant Services Customer Service Options

In the absence of any public complaints, we have awarded Canmor an “A” in this category. Canmor provides merchants with a dedicated internal complaint channel, but its only publicly available support option is a contact form.

We have located multiple Canmor Merchant Services customer service phone numbers:

(866) 685-4445 – Toll-Free Customer Support
(905) 668-6140 – General Customer Service
(888) 668-3803 – Fax

This is not as robust as the options provided by top-rated payment processors for great customer service, but it does appear to resolve most of the company’s complaints in-house.

Canmor Elavon Contract

We have located Canmor’s contract through Elavon. This appears to be a one-year contract with a $95 application fee, a $20 monthly minimum fee, an $8.95 monthly PCI compliance fee, a $9.95 account maintenance fee, a $7.50 monthly statement fee (if a paper statement is mailed to the merchant), and no early termination fee.

Virtual Terminal and Payment Gateway Pricing

In addition to its storefront payment processing services, Canmor also dedicates a portion of its website to advertising its virtual terminal and payment gateway through Ingenico ePayments. Ingenico offers three plans, a Go Plan, Premium Plan, and Tailored Plan. However, pricing is not disclosed on either of those plans. Additional Canmor Merchant Services rates and fees, including gateway fees, technical support fees, batch fees, and additional transaction rates typically apply to these e-commerce services.

No Contract Complaints

One element in Canmor’s favor is the fact that we are unable to locate any complaints that specifically mention the company’s pricing and fees. We will therefore assign Canmor an “A” rating in this category for the time being based on the available information about its contract. If you have any specific knowledge of Canmor’s pricing and fees (including equipment lease terms), please share that information in the comment section below this review.

Inside/Outside Sales Team

Canmor appears to primarily market its services via a combination of inside and outside sales agents. It is unclear whether the company’s outside sales agents are employed on an independent contractor basis, but there aren’t any Canmor reviews that accuse the company’s sales team of misrepresentation or nondisclosure. This indicates that Canmor’s sales agents do not tend to mislead or deceive merchants.

This compares favorably to our list of best credit card processors.

Canmor Rate Quotes

At the time of our previous update, Canmor’s website was filled with sales copy warning merchants to “BEWARE: LOW PRICED TERMINALS ARE NOT ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA” and “BEWARE OF SHELL GAME.” There were also numerous advisories against deceptive rate quotes and guarantees from competitors. Generally speaking, these warnings are accurate.

However, the specific numbers that the company cited were misleading. For instance, one page warned against rate quotes promising “1.29%.” Although it’s true that 1.29% is an unrealistically low and incomplete rate quote, it’s unclear why the company claimed that there could be an additional 0.40% “Visa & MasterCard Interchange Differential Fee” plus another 0.40% “Visa & MasterCard Procession Fee.” These fees are not standard fees for the industry, and merchants can avoid deceptive tiered pricing quotes by simply asking for interchange-plus pricing. Canmor has since removed the page that contained this inaccurate information.

No Red Flags

Due to the fact that Canmor does not have any public complaints regarding its sales practices or rate quotes, we have assigned it an “A” rating in this category. However, if you suspect that the company has misrepresented your pricing, you can double-check your monthly bill with a third-party statement audit.
